Schools for children with minor behaviour problems

I'm hoping that someone can give me advice on schooling in the Stuttgart region for my 5 year old daughter. She is currently in her first year of primary school in the UK, but we are hoping to move to Stuttgart (where my husband works) in the near future. I am looking at both the Swiss and International school, but am concerned that her behaviour will not be tolerated. She is a lovely little girl, but struggles to concentrate and therefore becomes disruptive at times. Her learning so far has been impeded by her behaviour and therefore she is near the bottom of her class. However under the German system she wouldn't attend Grundschule until next year and her behaviour has improved dramatically since starting school last year.
I would really appreciate to hear from other parents whose children may have had similiar experiences in the International school or in the German state system. Although I really want to move to Germany, this causes me a lot of concern.
Any advice/experiences would be great.

The DoDDS schools are good about catering to special needs children. I don't know the extent of your child's behaviorial problem, but if she's only 5, I wouldn't worry about it too much. She is a child after all: and, like all children, needs to move and be active. More than likely, she will "grow into school". Unfortunately, there does seem to be a double standard when a little girl is active. Seems like society allows little boys to be active but expect little girls just to "sit, be pretty and perfect". Little girls with spunk are a treasure box just waiting to be exposed to the "right" curriculum, the "right" situation. and the "right" teacher! Their possibilities are endless: whoever teaches her needs to appreciate and respect her strengths and her learning style, but they also need to be willing to help her with her weaknesses. A person, especially a child, is a work in progress! Don't let anyone kill her spirit! Fitting the "right type" of teacher to the "right type" of kid is the key. Be strong: it's probably going to be toughest on you having to watch your baby struggle! Help her find her strengths and make sure she experiences success in the little things so she can gain confidence! Hang in there and good luck!

Thank You for your reply. I agree with you and also in years to come her spunky attitude to life will be an attribute. Her problems are lack of concentration and becoming easily distracted. But after all she is only 5 !! We will probably move to Germany (Stuttgart) after Christmas, and that , after all is a long time in terms of child development.

I will be arriving in Stuttgart mid August. I will ask around and try to find out as much as I can for you.
