From Triathlon to Rad Marathon. The Erding Rad Marathon will be on the 3rd of Aug.

All details are in the weblink below.
http://www.radsport-tsv-erding.de/ (Select RTF to get details)

You have an option to choose any of the tours below
Tour I = 210 km
Tour II = 154 km
Tour III = 111 km
Tour IV = 75 km

The start time for each of the tour is different.

I was thinking of having a small group or team from Toytown to participate in this event. Probably once we decide on the Tour, we can arrive at the number of participants for each tour & meeting point etc.

I am interested. But do need a lift. Or do you travel with the S-Bahn?
Does everybody sleep at the Gasthof Hotel Mayr Wirt ? If so, I would like to be there too.

Which distance you want to make? I could do 111, maybe more.
nataras
I do 111kms. I will arrive by S Bahn in the morning.

Erding is at the end ind the S2.. Take the Train
There are also many other hotels to stay in, so don't limit yourself to just 1.

Dunno it's a bit of a trek for me.... tongue.gif

What's the score with these things, are they done at diffent speeds? i.e. not the speed of the slowest rider. My neighbour is big in to all this stuff in Erding, I might give him a knock to find out.

I´m not around that weekend, shame.

We did the Dachau one earlier this summer. They aren´t strictly speaking races - there was no time list or finishing order published and the roads weren´t closed or anything. I think there were prizes for oldest and youngest competitors and the team with the most members, but that was it.

You turn up on the day, register and get a card and number. You then set off when you feel like it within the time slot for your distance. The card gets stamped at each checkpoint and you joint the melee for food, drink and the use of a loo/tree. You can ride on your own or in a group, drafting is fine and there are quite large groups from some of the cycling clubs who ride along in proper pacelines. The only thing to remember is that as the roads aren´t closed and it´s not a race, you do have to obey the StVO.

I quite enjoyed it and got to cycle along with, and chat to some other people for parts of the ride and check out all of the nice bikes.

Edit: forgot to say that the route is marked, but it´s not a bad idea to have a print out of the course with you. In Dachau the markers weren´t that big and some people did miss a turn (I got overtaken by a massive club group and then half and hour later they overtook me again).

Hi Guys,
I did the 210 last year and will do the 160 this year, but I am already in a team. It is pretty much as Bron has described, not really a race and you can go at any pace, however for the tough guys out there, a friend of mine did the last 25km out of the 210km total, in a fast group with a 45kmh average... OMG! The comment about the route markers is true they are small, I missed one last year... duh!

Has to be said that the 110km and the 75km are really quite flat, maybe 500m total climb, but the 160 km and especially the 210 are real b*stards, the hills are not that long but in places are quite steep (15% plus ) in places, short and seem to arrive with annoying frequency! and in both cases the climbs are weighted into the last third of the course. It really gets in the way of riding at a set pace and in the latter distances makes drafting tough, because people tend to climb at different speeds. All 210km riders that I saw had either compacts or triples. If you do the 160 start out at 0700, if you do the 210, aim for as early as possible as the food, which is actually very good (soups, cakes, energy drinks, gels) can run out and you are left with, well whatever is left. Would aim for 0600 start.

The last feed station is about 35km from the end and that tends to act as a meeting point as they serve beers (alcohol free yuk !!) and it has a bit of an atmosphere, so is nice to hang around for a while.

Not sure what time I start but if I see any obvious TTer's I'll say hello.
cheers

Thanks for the info. I am on the 111km. Will go there with the S-Bahn. I never did this so far.
I don´t know the terrain, if it is really mostly flat I would aim for an average of 21-25 km/h.
Can I take a Rucksack with me and deposit it at the start/finish somewhere?

Can we meet all there? Eventually start together, independent of the trip-length?

I am interested as well, and will get there by S-Bahn. The route looks kinda flat though, but maybe if I do a hard ride on Saturday 111km will feel sufficiently challenging.
piaw
OK, I just looked and there's no address for the start. Is it obvious where to go from S-Bahn Erdling?
Darkknight
Perhaps, following all the people on bikes might be a good start wink.gif

The Link in the 1st posts clearly states: Start / Ziel: Sempt Sporthalle, Altenerding

Typing this into google gives you: www.tsverding.de and...

Sempt-Sporthalle (an der B 388)
Pretzener Weg 20
85435 Altenerding

Since this area is newly developed, Google Maps doesn't recognized the address.
But if you click this link its on the corner of Am Altwasser and Pretzener Weg.
Its in the middle of 2 s-bahn stations, so getoff and ride the 10min from either Aufhausen or Altenerding. Happy Riding.

Thanks! I had seen that location, but couldn't get my GPS unit to show it. Is there a route listing somewhere so I can preload the route into my GPS?
Darkknight
Not one that you can upload to a GPS. There is a map avail. on the website.

I couldn´t meet anybody. I was there for the 111 km, did start but gave up after 2 loops
at Maria Thalheim. Couldn´t find the right way. So am back home.

Oh, not too well signed then? The Sempt Sporthalle is a 2-min cycle from where I live, but I couldn't be hooped to do it; I only get up early on weekends for Triathlons or Flights!

When the wife moves-out, I'll have to start doing my Sunday rides early though huh.gif

It wasn't signed at all. Fortunately, I just followed a bunch of cyclists and got there just fine.

Hi, I also did the 154km, we set out at 0730 and finished at 1430, the route had changed a little bit from last year and it was shorter by a couple of climbs, no biggie, Actually my GPS said that it was 1850m climb, a team mate also said it was 1820m, anyway it was a good ride. The hills were kind of the same as I remember them, short, steep in places and lots of them making it difficult to get a rhythm even in a group, we found that it was tough to stay together and 'help' the slower riders, so we ended up slowing significantly at the top of the climbs in the later stages.

The weather was bloody hot I didn't even use the arm warmers and set out with factor 15 on the arms and legs and still got fried! This did mean that at the feed stations you had to take on loads of liquid, with this in mind the lack of loo's was an issue for the woman on our team.. she managed though, we were all polite and didn't stare... very much wink.gif Another aspect where I have to agree with piaw was the wind.. it actually helped in the beginning quite a lot but was a bastard at the end of the route.. OK it's not quantitative but one of my team mates said that in the flat bits about 10km from the finish last year at the end of the 210km route, a group of 5 of us were pace lining at 55kmh, this year into a head wind, the same group managed 38kmh.. it was tough!
ANyway, 'til next time..
