This says March 2009. And goes on to say that further details will be provided as and when is known.
LustForLeith
Thanks Cookieman. I heard it was during Lent and I was planning on paying a visit on Easter which should maybe cover the end of Starkbierzeit. Will keeping checking and crossing my fingures in hope that's when it is!

Mon, you'd better get some practice in before you hit the hard stuff! See you next Lent.

A leither has no problems with hard stuff. Tho I'm not sure the Starkbierfest runs as late as Easter. The whole point is that it is a Lenten thing.

Wasn't too sure went Lent is, not really religious. Googled it and it says Lent ends on April 11th next year which is in the Easter weekend.

I think..!

God help you Presbyterians! Lent ends with Easter!
James_Runner
Actually, Lent ends with Palm Sunday, before Holy Week. But when it comes to Starkbier, who's counting. tongue.gif

Errm that's the whole point of it.

It of course depends on whyt in Starkbierfest you want to see, but chances are you want to go to Nockerberg.

This year, Nockerberg had their Fest from February 22nd til March 9th. Easter was 20th - 23rd of March.

So the "Fest" didn't run until Easter.

Easter week begins with Palm Sunday.

According to Wiki, Easter week begins with Easter Sunday, although god botherers and others of a theological bent may want to comment otherwise.

QUOTE
The week before Easter, known as Holy Week, is very special in the Christian tradition...
... The week beginning with Easter Sunday is called Easter Week or the Octave of Easter, and each day is prefaced with "Easter", e.g. Easter Monday, Easter Tuesday, etc. Easter Saturday is therefore the Saturday after Easter Sunday. The day before Easter is properly called Holy Saturday. Many churches begin celebrating Easter late in the evening of Holy Saturday at a service called the Easter Vigil.

OP, you may be in luck after all. Starkbierzeit is very yummy indeed. smile.gif
sarabyrd
Ah, the difference between Easter Week and Karwoche, being the week before Easter Sunday. Thanks for the info.
Kommentarlos
For the OP, Karwoche, is simply Holy Week in German. smile.gif

Sorry just asking! Novice to the whole experieince!
LustForLeith
The reason why I was asking I'm sure I read somewhere that it lasted until 11th April and this website said it was on until early April! -

Google is your friend remember...

Starkbierfest dates 2009

EDIT: But apparently not mine, I should read the article before posting, seems that that is just a tour, but presumably the festival is within and around those dates!

From Wikipedia, the Nockherberg Starkbierfest:

QUOTE
Das Starkbierfest wird jedes Jahr während der Fastenzeit im Paulaner-Festsaal in der Hochstraße 77 veranstaltet. Es beginnt um den Josefi-Tag (19. März) und dauert 17 Tage

The Starkbierfest is held in the Paulaner-Festsaal (Hochstraße 77) every year. It starts around Josefi-Tag (19 March) and lasts for 17 days.

EDIT: Obviously, I've limited the search to just one venue - albeit the most famous one. However, Starkbierzeit appears to be a little more loosely defined, as the beer itself is already available in February and it's not held at just one location, but rather in individual breweries. As such, they decide what events they want to have and when they want to have them.
sarabyrd
Easter is fairly late next year (10 April) so the Starkbierzeit will begin considerably later than it did this year (22 Feb, lasting through 9 Mar).
