Strasbourg is nice (the boat tour is something you should do). If you go to Strasbourg, I would highly recommend taking a train (<10 euros roundtrip from Strasbourg) to Colmar. I took my parents there and it was one of their favorite places. Just a beautiful and quaint town, not overrun by the tourism industry. Triberg, in the Schwarzwald, is a suggestion, although it's VERY touristy and crowded in the summer. Have fun!
