I feel such a nube, but I've searched for an answer to this here and elsewhere and no success; so here goes. If you are moving into a house (in this instance N.Berlin, Wandlitz region) how do you know who to give the final meter reading for water to by the previous owners, and how do you arrange future metered payment?
But then water seems to be supplied okay, so should we just wait until someone sends us a bill?
There is no clue to the company on the water meter in the house by the way.
Any help appreciated, thanks. we're moving in in two weeks and don't want to find we've been cut off.

Stadtwerk Berlin, but this will be part of your rent's extra costs (nebenkosten). It is usually a fixed rate based on size of place, number of bedrooms and number of people living there and whether they are adults or kids. The electricity is what you need to worry about and they will simply find you and send you a bill. When you move in, you should have a card to fill out.

Sorry Eurovol, I should have made clear; we are moving into a house we have bought, not rented.
It is complicated because the house was a repossession that went to auction and was bought by a property company who just wanted to sell on as quickly as possible. So we have no connection with anyone who has actually lived there. Thus we have all the utility meters and no gas and electricity (and maybe no water) and ... who do we contact to get connected?
And I've just googled Stadtwerk Berlin and got 668,000 returns and the question 'Did you mean: Stadtwerke Berlin?' I don't know!!!

Well, that's reduced it down to just 644,000 hits
I wonder why German public services don't have the equivalent of the UK's
www.direct.gov.uk one-stop-shop? After all, we're all working towards the same EU directives for e-government.

Thanks for sticking with it Eurovol, but looking at that site I can't see that they provide water outside the boundaries of Berlin (i'm in Wandlitz region / Brandenburg remember).
Maybe I'll jusy have to contact the local Bezirkamt, wait until we get there and ask the neighbours, or stock up on bottled water.
