I've been away, so no warning. Sorry.

The Deidesheimer Weinkerwe (wine fest in Deidesheim, in between Mannheim and Kaiserslautern, after a change in Neustadt (5 minutes north)) started tonight. I can say it is one of the larger, livelier winefests of the year. Sure, there's the Bad Durkheim Wurstmarkt, which is fairly nuts, but that's a ways off. For now, though, this is the one to hit if you want to get your weinschorle on in and around some of the region's nicest wineries, and among some of it's finest citizens... (about a dozen of us will be going tomorrow night).

It will be on next weekend as well, and during the week, but if anyone new to the area (or old, but haven't made it to this) wants to meet up tomorrow night, let me know.

I just want to give a shout out to all the people that responded to this and showed up last weekend. What a blast, eh?! Great to see you all.

It's on again this weekend. Crap weather right now, but if it clears it should be fun. Tomorrow night as well. If anyone's going, let me know.

Let me say that in our (my wife & I) opinion Deidesheim wine belongs to the best. We purchase from Dr. Deinhard (at the North end of the town) once every two years or so.

I took a tour of his cellar last year, HEM. Super guy, as well.

Let me know what time, Elfenstar. Maybe we'll meet up.

They gave us a tour of the cellar many years go... A couple of years ago we were invited to a birthday party nearby & e-mailed Deinhard as to whether someone might be there on the Sunday. Got a mail back confirming - and they really were there when we turned up at 10am on the Sunday.

As with any other place its best to avoid on the touristy weekends if you want real attention....

HEM, we were just arriving to these parts last year and a friend that lives down the street from Dr. Deinhard set up a little tour with him. Even during the festival (that's going on right now) he took the time away from his packed courtyard of saumagen-eating neighbors to show us around. Great introduction to the region.

Elfenstar... She's got some goofy dance recital thing tomorrow night, but not until 9. We'll likely go before and after. Since you have to change here, we may as well join you. And don't worry about the train home. Trains come back here until 2 a.m. from Deidesheim (during the fest), and you're more than welcome to make it a home for the night.

Yep. text tomorrow.
