BBC News: Dead German poet gets TV demands

QUOTE
The celebrated German poet Friedrich Schiller, dead for more than 200 years, has been sent reminders that he should pay his TV and radio licence fee. The German fee collection agency, GEZ, mistakenly sent letters to "Mr Friedrich Schiller" - which arrived at a primary school bearing his name.

He should have been watching their new ads. Something about not ripping off other peoples creativity if memory serves me correctly! wink.gif

That is just great.

Hah, the old faking your death to avoid paying your creditors ruse!

So Goethe has to cough up EUR51,200 as well. And thus exhausteth the literary canon.

Now, if they start on the classical composers, they'll be up c. a mil, and all the Siemsstrasses and Dieselstrasses every town seems to invariably (and uncreatively) have, they'll get another 100k or so.

And I thought only the Mormons attempted to retroactively convert the dead.

The reminders came despite the fact that the headteacher had written to GEZ stating that "the addressee is no longer in a position to listen to the radio or watch television".

What??? A german agency not bothering to answer or even read letters? Where have I heard that before...

The GEZ is just incompetent. My husband and I have different last names, but we are married and do constitute ONE household. The Tv/radio fees are paid under my name. I have clarified this point to them several times (via email, even broke down and paid to call them a year or two back), but they persist in sending my husband multiple dunning letters every year or two...

An official agent stood on my doorstep yesterday asking about my TV. We don't have one, as my husband has been telling them for years. I did not invite him in to see for himself, as he seemed to be expecting.

Don't they still charge you if you have a computer, as you can watch TV and listen to radio on it? Presuming, as your on this forum, that you have a computer, or maybe you post at work...

Saw in the paper on Fri. that GEZ were also demanding payments from a 83 Year Old Deaf and Blind guy..
These people will never stop harrasing people. Even if you do pay, so save your $$ and tell'em to f00k Off.

The GEZ agent still has to have proof that you have these items. If you don't let them in and aren't stupid enough to have your TV
blasting if/when you open the door for them, you should be fine.
