This time round, the Max Planck Institutes (Astrophysics, Extraterrestrial Physics, Plasma Physics, Quantum Optics) and the European Southern Observatory will not be participating, but if you're into astronomy, robots, nanotechnology or photonics, you should find something of interest at one of the interdisciplinary "Excellence Clusters".
Getting there: U-Bahn U6, "Garching-Forschungszentrum" will take you right to where it's all happening. If you go by car, take the A9 Autobahn, exit Garching-Nord, but note that parking spaces are limited. There will be a free shuttle bus service to ferry people around the campus.
Check out the Tag der offenen Tür web site (in German) for full details.

For the other institutes there are - to the best of my knowledge - no special requirements. Comfy shoes are a good idea in any case, because the campus is a big place and there's plenty of walking to do.
