Its back,
the Forum Vini is one once again in November.
I have been previous years and always look forward to trying wines from around the world, and of course the new schnapps section too!
http://www.forum-vini.de/forumvini/de/index.phpI am planning on heading the saturday if anyone wants to attend with us ( a few other TTers) just drop me a PM.

This is a great way to try new wines, and if you order a decent amount from one of the stands, they might even be nice and send you free entrance tickets for the next year

.
Edit: you could probably also post here if you were looking for other people to go with.
It runs Friday to Sunday. (A smaller group during the early afternoon that pairs off into areas of interest also has the best chances of decent tastings and being fairly sloshed by the end of the visit

Hi
I am interested in the wine tasting. If there are any entrance fees, do we have to buy tickets in advance?
=)

Yes there is an entrance fee. Yes you need tickets.. They can be bought at any kiosks that also sells concert or opera tickets.

This years entrance fee is 17Euro, the tickets can be bought at the MOC on the day or advance at one of the kiosks that DK mentioned. This gives you entrance to try all the wines you can.

Well, within reason! Some stands are pickier than others about tasting, a hoard of tipsy ex pats tends to get less wine than a few people asking about the grapes.
And there are stands offering exquisite chocolates, truffel salami, regional cheeses ... *drool*.
PS - driving is not recommended

Another tip - check out the informational "workshops" in this link and plan your visit accordingly. I, for one, plan on hitting the rioja session if possible.

Ah ha! My
favourite seller will be showing again so I expect my ticket this week, but I'd like to recommend
Kiwi-Weine on Stand 2-C11 as they are the exclusive importer of
Spy Valley wines for Germany, a really lovely winery in Marlborough - that 2007 Sauv Blanc is a cracker and the 2008 to come will be even better. The Pinot Noir is also rather great.
Apell on Stand 2-D13 will also be worth a look. The Schubert range of Shiraz from Barossa are very, very nice - run by a German guy too.

Best part of the exhibition for me are the "tasting tables" set up usually in the far left corner of the hall. Here they set out between 100 - 150 different wines that are available from exhibitors at the fair. A handy catalog with tasting notes and prices is supplied and you can sample any of the wines, free from the hard sell given to you by the people on the stands. Make your selections then head over to the relevant producer and make your order.
For a quite unique tasting experience check out the stand from Weingut Freiherr Roeder von Diersburg. The Baron and Baroness serve you personally and do some really excellent wines, their Pinot Brut sekt can be highly recommended.
a small group of us will be going on friday, so if you want to join us, drop me a pm.

I'm still going on saturday, if anyone wants to meet up. But my complementary tickets are gone

Don't be offended if I split off and do my own tasting for an hour or so - the stand I go to sends me free tickets but does like it if I visit for awhile. Smaller groups of 2 -4 people get better service. However, after a day of comparing notes and getting delicatessans and wines, it's always nice to go for a meal with a group afterwards as well!

Hey guys
If you are going to Forum Vini you should come and visit Tanja and myself; we will be on Berts Weinexpress stand (Hall 1 D11) on the South African side. We have some really fantastic wines to taste; if you have not been able to make it to one of our tastings then this is a greta chance to see what we have to offer.

Met Traceyann- thanks for the great info on SouthAfrican Wines... and the tasting set the mood for the night.
Met a cool New Yorkers now owning a Winery in Tuscany... awesome olive oil, but also great wines! (hall 2 near the toilets)
Some nice cheeses to try, sausages and also chocolate to die for.
Was a good night in general, we all spent too much money (some more than others), but enjoyed the night and trying all the different wines and deli stuffs.
Best evening of fun I have had in a long time.

Had a nice time considering I am not a massive wine drinker. Had to time out as the quantity of wine, spirits and Saki was too much.
The most eventful moment was when I spilt 3 litres of wine on the stall floor...luckily I bought a bottle of wine beforehand and moved swiftly towards the next corner of the hall.
I learnt something about wine...I think... with a great crowd
Will definately go again next year...
