Haeberlein-Metzger Elisen Lebkuchen

Where to buy these Nuremberg cookies

I'm looking for this particular brand of Elisen Lebkuchen (they are the best by far) to send to my parents. Has anyone seen them this year or know which shops carry them?

I know you can order them directly from the manufacturer on-line but I'd rather buy them in person.

Hi ER! Which shops have you tried already? My advice would be to check Lebkuchen Schmidt at Viktualienmarkt - it's that store which sells Lebkuchen throughout the year. They definitely have Elisen but not sure which brands. I guess you could phone them up too. Locations of Lebkuchen stores.

There's a Nuremberger lebkuchen shop just sprung up at Max Weber Platz. I can't be certain because I haven't been in but it seems likely they'd have them.

What makes those so good ER?

Lebkuchen Schmidt, as far as I'm aware, only sell their own Lebkuchen. Their permanent store is by the Viktualienmarkt, but they also have various other seasonal stores, including the one at Max Weber Platz that llees mentions. See their website for a full list.

I don't know where you would find Haeberlein-Metzger Lebkuchen; it's not a brand I've come across. Karstadt would be a good bet though. Otherwise bakeries usually produce their own Lebkuchen, which is generally fresher than the prepacked stuff, although at around €2 each also more expensive.

I'm afraid that their website is uploading too slowly for me to be able to browse it quickly in the office, but here you can see which products Lebkuchen Schmidt sell. I'm 99% sure I bought Elisen-Lebkuchen from there too. Apologies if I'm wrong!

I'm looking for this particular brand of Elisen lebkuchen. Lebkuchen Schmidt only sell their own (Schmidt) brand lebkuchen but thanks for the suggestion.

As far as I know Haeberlein-Metzger don't have their own stores so I'm hoping someone has seen them in the local supermarkets.

Kinda annoying, Schmidt is somewhat dominating the whole "Lebkuchen market". I'm looking for one of these gift boxes in metal so most smaller bakeries' products are not that relevant.

I know I've seen them in the past - I suspect it was at Karstadt/Kaufhof or Hertie. Those would be the first places I'd look.

you can order the tins off the haeberlein website for €12 and postage costs of €2,70. I've seen Lebkuchen tins, though not Haeberlein, in Rewe.

Haberlein-Metzger is one of Schmidt's main competitors on the market so Schmidt certainly won't carry them. Edeka and E-Centers carry them, even though probably just the larger white bags instead of the small boxes as in your picture.

I just bought a bag of Haeberlein-Metzger Feine Lebkuchen from a Rewe in Starnberg. A bag isn't really suited to shipping, but perhaps they have them in boxes (I wasn't looking for that). I must agree that they're some of the best! Good luck.

ER, here's an American site that seems to have a good selection. If you're sending to Canada and can't easily find what you're looking for in Munich, you might try shipping them within North America.

Was in Rewe in the Funf Höfe today and they have a big display stand as you go in from Haeberlein-Metzger and pretty sure they had these ones. They had boxes and tins.
Eleanor Rigby
Thanks seb, I was able to find exactly what I was looking for at Rewe.

Should I go out of my way to buy some?
Eleanor Rigby
According to my parents they're the best to the extent that these were the only acceptable ones to put in their Christmas care package. I asked if the Schmidt ones would suffice and was giving a resounding No!

I have no idea if or what actually makes them better not being a Lebkuchen connoiseur myself but after all the trouble I went to they better damn well be worth it!
Renia
Oh, ok smile.gif. When I was in Nuremberg last Sunday there were Elisen stalls everywhere.
