Any any of you regulars interested in a frisbee golf day trip in a couple of weeks?I've played a few times over the last couple of weeks. There is an absolutely
fantastic disc golf course out in Weilheim (about 45 minutes from Munich) which
would make for a perfect day trip. We could either drive, if cars are available, or
buy a Bayern-Ticket and take the train. The course at Weilheim has 18 holes, is
free to use and starts/ends at a really nice beer garden with food and a breath-
taking view.

Big PictureToday I spoke to the head of the Munich disc-golf team
the Hyzernauts, who is a
really nice guy and also has a cupboard full of disc-golf discs

. I'm sure we
can sort something out so that we can borrow/rent discs (disc-golf discs are about
half the size of normal frisbees).
I was thinking of October 30th or November 6th.
Let me know if you're interested ...

Great game today and it was nice to squeeze the smaller field in between 3-4 soccer games. But seemed like a perfect size for the 4-4 or 5-5. Cross your fingers that Mother Nature keeps tossing us Sundays like today! Altho I probably only have one left in Munich...

I'd be up for it! Won't be back from China until the week of the 6th, but if nothing untoward springs up I'd love to do it then. From the map, that course almost looks like it's an island

No golf discs required for me. I can hurl my 175g Ultimate disc pretty far. Once, with the "roll" I got a hole in one on an object course--that was pure luck but I'll take it!
edit: I have a car. Can take +1 passenger.

Hi Peter and Dave - I'm hoping that I can sort enough discs out for everyone, probably for free, we'd only have to replace them if we lost any.
What about the rest of you disc-heads? ... Hain, Ben, Erik, Tim, Chad ...?Outdoors + non-strenous sport + beergarden = top day out

We could even have a game of ultimate afterwards if there's enough of us ...

I'm down for this upcoming weekend - I played with Jay and Thomas at this course a week ago, and it was an excellent day out! See it as a technical practice break from the non-stop running.

Have a car that can take 4 in addition to me. Don't have a disc though...

hey, everyone. Haven't been out to an ultimate game since the first couple sessions waaay back, but I was trying to organize a disc golf trip for quite a while over on
this thread. I'd love to come this weekend if a trip is made. Count me in for a slot in the car! I have 2 or 3 firsbee golf discs I can bring, although they might all be drivers.
I only wish I had known people have been going out to play already! Frolf is great!

EDIT: Oh wail, I just assumed this was on Saturday. If it is this Sunday then I can't go until around noon unfortunately. But I would love to come out this weekend if at all possible!
EDIT AGAIN: Hmmmm, jayhay actually said the 30th and 6th and I now realize that this weekend is the 22/23. So how about Saturday we make a trip out for some frisbee golf!

I'm back next Wednesday ... I suggest we play on Sunday 30th (weather permitting). If we set off earlyish (10am) we could play a round before lunch and one after. Otherwise we could head about in the early afternoon and then get some food and drinks afterwards. Let me know what you think.

Jarvii, one51, shall we set something up? I'm sure we can get a few others with us. Thinking this Saturday, meeting up at 12 or so, and heading back at around sunset (6ish).

Anyone who wants to join? Got discs?

Hey guys,
I'm dying to place some frisbee golf but the timing isn't ideal (I begin moving the next day and SWMBO arrives 2 days prior). If I can't make it I'll loan you guys my golf discs. I think I have 6-7 in total; putters, wedges, drivers of various types - the whole 9.

We would meet up at 10 AM at Stiglmaierplatz right outside the Cinema, and look to return to Munich between 4 and 5 in the afternoon.
The course is out in Weilheim, about a 45 minute drive from Munich, and is set in a gorgeous location with a very nice biergarten right at the start and finish of the course. (see Jay's post earlier in the thread for a map)
Also, does anyone have a clue where frisbee golf discs can be bought? DW says he's heard of some sort of bike shop on the way out to Weilheim that has them - anyone have any more info on this? Any help or ideas are appreciated.
Thanks!

Are you guys definitly staying there till the afternoon? I could conceivably do the early shift here, then get on the ubahn and be in town at 11:30. I could bring my bike, jump on the sbahn, cycle to the course and meet you there. Possibly.

Ben, how about we just text you just before 11:30 and let you know what our status is (if we plan to go another round, weather, etc)? I would love to be able to play two rounds, but don't know if we'll make it as it took 3 of us about 2 1/2 hours to complete the course playing at a decent speed, so guessing it might take 5 up to 3 1/2 hours...

It was a brilliant day out - gorgeous weather, clear views of the alps, and of course, great company. We played two rounds - one morning round, then had lunch and few beers, and then an afternoon round. Dave took home both rounds with scores of 68 and then 66, excellent playing Dave!
Almost everyone got birdies (2s), and 3 people got birdies on the same hole! 15 meter shots were made into baskets, brilliant initial throw outs that landed right beside the baskets - some very quality playing was to be seen. And no lost discs or injuries (thanks to some matrix-ish moves on two occasions

)
I am definitely down for next weekend. Jay, you mentioned you got some discs online really quick - can you point me there as I want to buy a driver and putter for myself?
Thanks for posting the pics, Dave, and hope to see a good turnout (and kind weather) for next weekend as well, cheers!

Let's get an order together for golf discs if it saves some money. I might get a new ultimate disc too.
Anyone an expert on the brands? I'd go for a long range and a mid or two (have a putter already).
I want whatever one throws the longest, as one disc. The other one or two, do they have ones that hook left or right for curves? :-)
benpanter
Oct 23 2005, 5:16 pm
I've got an aeorbie driver, but I have no idea if it is good or otherwise as I have never used it in anger. I'd be up for buying a putter for sure and possibly a midrange disc too, depending on cost.
EDIT: OK, looked at the kompletset - I reckon I'd go for the Discraft 3-er Set Elite-Z as extra ones would be handy...

I'm giving some thought to buying a portable disc golf basket. As nice as the course in Weilheim is (and it is really wonderful) it is a bit of a hike to do regularly or on weekdays after work. I think some guerrilla style disc golf in the
English Garden or
Olympiapark would be pretty cool. If we wanted to get really geeky we could use GPS to make an "official" course.
I've done a little research and it looks like a good quality portable/collapsible basket goes for ~$250 in the US (cheapest I could find in DE is 500 Euros but I didn't look very hard). Perhaps I'll bring one back after the holidays.

About buying disc-golf discs ...I asked the head of the Munich disc-golf association about buying discs yesterday. He said that he's got a lot of new discs at home which he sells - I think mostly at tournaments - and that anyone can give him a ring and pick the discs up from him directly. He said it is cheaper than the online-shop price, there's also no postage costs or wait. PM me for his number. In case that doesn't work out, or you prefer to order online, he also suggested the online-shop:
www.flymart.deAbout courses in Munich and portable baskets ...The Munich disc golf guy already has several portable baskets and is looking to organise a regular game/practice once a week on weekends. Bringing disc-golf to the people is his life-mission. Last week he met with the Munich Parks Authority to discuss the possibility of getting a permanent course installed either in the
Olympiapark, English Gardens or at the BUGA-Gelände. He's at a tournament this coming weekend, but on the following weekend, perhaps we can arrange to play some guerilla disc-golf (to quote DW) in the
English Gardens ... ?
