Since I needed to ask a question in the language translation section (anyone know a german phrase from "hindsight is 20/20"?), I figured I'd drop in and say hi to the ultimate crowd. I hope the games have been going well and that more of you are laying out for frisbees nowadays (someday, you'll learn its a lot of fun!).
My hand has been broken all semester, so I haven't been able to play any frisbee recently. First I punched a door (oops), then rebroke my hand on spring break playing ultimate. Oh well, still plenty of life left to play! The point is, I'm graduating from RPI in 23 days. It's scary, really.
Summer in Munich is amazing. I'm jealous of you all. Have a Mass (or three) for me one of these post-game biergarten runs.
Peace.

I have to confess to being a little worried about how my girlfriend would react to the way this "I'll show you mine if you show me yours" discussion is going. Brushing that impending doom aside I will suggest
they.net as the ultimate weather predictor, at it's best when checked on Saturday afternoon.

@BSF, sorry bout the hand man! My recommendation, don't punch doors. I sprained my middle finger snowboarding and there were a few weeks where I couldn't flip anyone off... that was rough.
I laid out a few times recently and decided it ain't good for my knee. Therefore I'll just make sure I run fast enough to catch every disc without needing to dive. At least that running thing hasn't yet started to go as I get old

It's been good gaming lately. Unfortunately the next time I can make it is probably May 14th due to vacations and a band gig. See ya guys then.

True. I just checked my forecast (which is, by the way, the best) and there is possible snow forecast for the afternoon as well. On top of that,
next Wednesday is set to be 21 degrees and burning Saharan sun. Go figure.

Oops, don't know what happened to the reply I was working on - anyway, I was saying that I've never played before, but I can run and I have general control over my wrist functions (or something witty like that). Will you be playing this (Sunday) afternoon at 2? And where? And do I need to know anything else?

willi - if it's a glow in the dark one then it certainly made it to the beer garden. Ask mrbrain, I think he was there when I left.
Everyone else... thanks for a great day! We'll be playing again at Giselastrasse on Wednesday at 6pm. Would be great to see you if you fancy it!

@hellowilli: Your frisbee did make it to the beer garden, but after that, I'm not sure where it went. I brought it to the beer garden after frisbee as I was one of the last to leave the park and it was left behind. I asked around at the beer garden for the owner, but no one knew. I think it was still by the table when I left. Either one of the others snagged it at the end of the day, or it's still at the Chinese Tower, in which case they may have a lost and found. Sorry for the bad news... I hope you find it!

May 4 2006, 11:09 am
I was one of the last to leave the area where we had our bikes and backpacks, and did not notice anything left behind. Although perhaps an ipod might hide well in the grass, so I may have just missed it. If you left it behind in the beer garden, you might want to see if they have some sort of lost and found -- you might get lucky. Otherwise, I'm sorry to hear about your loss... I hope it wasn't a full 60-gig one.

@MandyNY - Good question!
Let's put it to the frisbee-playing masses: The park was very busy on Wednesday evening and Sunday's are much busier. Plus the forecast for this weekend is perfect ... park weather. My suggestion: Perhaps this is a good week to start meeting at
Dietlindenstrasse, what do people think?
benpanter
May 5 2006, 7:40 am
I'm leaving for the UK in a couple of minutes so won't be around, but if you do go the D-way, suggest a meet up at the U6 for anyone who doesn't have map reading ability...
Have fun guys, and say hello to Hirshau for me.

May 5 2006, 7:48 am
I like the Giselestr. area better, and it should not be a problem if we can take over the Rugby field when they are done. But if we can't then we should go to area D.
jayhay
May 5 2006, 7:58 am
In general I like the
Giselastr. area better too, but it was very busy on Wednesday evening and there will twice as much going on there on Sunday. Even if we can take over the touch rugby field it gets a bit dangerous playing amidst a field of sunbathing drones and there is so always plenty of space at Dietlindenstrasse. Especially for beginners it's less fun when you're worried about hitting someone with the disc.
Let's meet on Sunday at 14:00 at the Dietlindenstrasse location. For those who've not played there before:
- There's a map at the start of this thread
- I'll wait at the exit to the subway station U-Dietlindenstrasse (at the corner of Ungererstr./Dietlindenstr.) at 13:40 and walk from there at 13:50 if you want to travel together.
- If you send me a PM, I'll send you my mobile number in case you get lost.

Here's a vote to hit up area D - we've always had fantastic games there, and the Hirschau makes for a nice change of apres-ultimate venue.
brokenm
May 5 2006, 8:16 am
My main reticence about changing the locations is that people get confused. I remember last year when I was just beginning I would go to one location or the other and I almost gave up trying. I think that if we do change the location we should keep it the same throughout the summer. So I still vote for the Giselestr entrance since all summe rlong we will be able to take it over from the Rugby guys.

I'm for playing on any field (okay, most any) where we can secure a spot. It's known to all who live in Munich that you ought to carry a map and directions if you're not certain where to go. I think Jayhay is making a great effort to round up the spatially-challenged.
I've been lost a couple of times too, so I'll try to make it to Dietlindenstr on Sun at 13:40

Ok, Jay bribed me with an espresso. I change my vote for D platz.
