Ultimate Frisbee - Wednesdays and Sundays

I will be turning up late - FA cup semi final, so will be round at 5ish.

I'm with Ben about the organisation level. One of the reasons I like it is because it's low-maintenance, you just play. I'm one of the poorer players on the field, so I don't want to feel like there's any pressure - even friendly - to play exceedingly well.

As it was, this afternoon was good fun, but remember kids, bring a heavier jacket for the beergarden afterwards!

Great time today, glad to see so much interest! DW mentioned we might have to change location for Sundays (go to the north end of the Garden), as the summer rolls in, finding a spot in that area could be pretty tough.

Glad to hear it went well. When I get back we'll co-ordinate moving - I reckon to just North of the road - but in the meantime to stop any confusion I would hang on where you are.

No matter how good it was I reckon my Kayaking beat it... even saw an Eagle of some description

Re: Moving location on Sundays: Since half of the players are astronomers who get the word from Ben and not through Toytown, we should definitely wait until Ben gets back before relocating. Having said that, we will definitely need to move, because it will be busier there week by week. I run in the north half of the English Garden (north of the Mittlerer Ring ring road) regularly, so I'll keep my eyes open for a possible location. If anyone already has a spot in mind, make yourself heard!

Re: Organising a tournament: I agree with Ben that we should keep Wednesday/Sunday simple and accessible.
If attendence continues to climb, we might think about playing two games in parallel to keep teams a bit smaller though.


I'd be up for that as well - I also wouldn't mind the chance to spend an hour or two occasionally practising throwing the frisbee. I'd like to learn to throw underarm and do that crazy over-the-head hammer throw that Greg does sometimes ...

I would like to get a game going today. Can we get a tally of who will be there? If there is enough for a game, I'm in (because I'm Hahdcoah). Any way to know how many are/aren't coming from Ben's work?

Playing while it's raining is always the best. Slipping all the time, and everyone sucks, meaning there are no good players and no bad players... just people playing. Rain is a great equalizer in many sports. UF is no exception.

Bring a bag w/ extra cloths, and a sac to put that bag in so it doesn't get wet. then at the end, change cloths, put wet/muddy cloths into sac, then into bag, and go home to a nice warm shower.

I guess saying 'probably' doesn't really help! But if the weather stays as it is i'll be along. if it gets worse i wont

gotta remember... last weds. I thought it was about to rain while I was getting ready at home, but when I got to the garten, it was pretty much sunny. So if it's raining really hard when you are thinking it over at home/work, just remember, we are all out getting tanned playing UF

Well, I'll be there for 6pm, as it seems jip will be, too, rain or shine. Hopefully we get enough for at least a small game!

I am tempted to play today, as it's threatening to clear up in Garching--and there's only one raindrop in my forecast. I count 4 others?

Well, it was an amazing game, we had 7 of us there (played 3v3 with a sub), and had a great time. All you who didn't join missed a good game, even if it was drizzling a little!

I had a great time, and for some reason i dreamt of flying pumpkins last night!

I'm hoping we'll have enough for a game. Last Sunday there was about 20 people, no clue how many are showing up today.

Excuse my ignorance, but what the hell difference is there in regular frisbee and ultimate frisbee?

In one you throw the frisbee to each other, in the other you throw the frisbee to each other while running about. Have a look at the link on the very first post in this thread or jsut come along one day and see...

In my experience, if you don't run about, you will never catch the frisbee no matter what you call it. Not many people can actually aim and make their target as good as others.

hey eurovol - ultimate is a sport, as opposed to chucking the frisbee at each other. Either way, if you are interested in doing either, just turn up one time and you can find out yourself

there was a good turnout again last night, but some people had head problems and couldn't get themselves moving, even to just do "regular" frisbee.

@ BostonSportsFan - I picked up your frisbee and will bring it along on Wednesday (although the weather forecast for the entire week is rain)

Yeah, good game yesterday, although for some reason my ankles are killing me today. I don't remember diving for any frisbees?

1) I won't drink 2 bottles of Magners about 30 mins before I play ever again!

How many people would be willing to play the game despite light rain? Wetter.de right now says some rain but 16 deg C (61 deg F) which is warm enough if you are running around. Hopefully the weather will be better by tomorrow.
