yeah from me.
eriiki tubbs
nay from me - got prior plans...
brokenm
All right, I will sadly make other plans as no one else seems definite. Bis Sonntag
Abs
Doh, would have loved to toss the disk but was up in Garmish with Beck til just now. Maybe another time.

And yes, that Sunday game, the 31st, the "Ultimate Game"... if you will, will be a good one. Cam is the Man! Cant wait to see you then! Have fun in the UK!

Hain- loved Marie, very very sweet.
brokenm
Is the meeting at 4? and at Giselastr??
jip
the current weather report that I looked at only had until 12pm Sunday, but looked to be raining in the morning, and thunder storms moving in at ~12pm. That said, I don't trust the weather report farther than I can throw the person/computer who came up with it.
soo...
As no one else has put up the definitive answer yet, and we usually base it on the weather report and current weather report says rain, I'ma gonna go ahead and say it's gonna be 4pm g-strasse. If anyone is worried the location will change between the end of the work day today and the start of the game Sunday (and cannot check the board in that time), send me a PM and I will send you my mobil number which can be called to verify time/location.
jayhay
Giselastrasse at 4pm sounds good - I think it's actually going to be fairly rare that we can't find space there.

Perhaps it would make sense to always meet there for the inital throwaround and then, if it really is too full, move together to the other location.
Giselastrasse is so much better and it would make the whole thing less complicated for those that can't check the net over the weekend ...
What do people think?

Man, I can't wait for Sunday!

Oh, incidentally, I was thinking (way) ahead. For the colder months, is it possible to play ultimate indoors? If so, does anyone know any locations? The thought of 4 months without any frisbee makes my head hurt.
davo
@Jay - i agree. ultimate is great exercise for me and i'd love to continue playing year-round, if possible.

re: sonntag, not looking good for me sad.gif
somehow i managed to kick the base of my bed (hard), and now i'm walking a bit gingerly. not sure running for frisbees will be possible tomorrow... Scheiße!!
one51
Weather looks good... so, in case people aren't at Giselastrasse I guess try the more northern location.

Playing in winter: I would think it's not easy (or cheap?) to find an indoor field. But if someone wants to look... go for it...

See ya at 4!
Weenskii
TT newbie here, looking forward to playing today.. it's been too long. I'll be there @4. Are discs provided or should I bring one?
one51
Never hurts to bring a disc. Then we are sure to have enough to throw around in the beginning.

Anyone have cones for the end zones? It's a bit nicer than using backpacks wink.gif
Weenskii
I used to keep a set of cones in the trunk of my car back in the states, but sadly they didnt make the journey over.

one51: how many people do you expect to join today?
BostonSportsFan
Weenskii, welcome to TT and our ultimate games. We usually get games of 7v7 with a sub or two (or more). If you've got a disc, like one51 said, bring it along if you want, but there will be a few of us there who also have discs.

Reminder to everyone: Bring water if you can! The sun can really drain you during these games!

I can't wait till 4!

Hey Ultimate Junkies~

I posted this elsewhere and wanted to extend the offer to you.

Hello Fellow TTers~

I'm actually starting to teach English speaking yoga classes to small groups of 5 to 6 people. I will be teaching out of my house until I feel that a larger space is needed. The benefits of teaching small groups is that I can personalize the class to the group's needs. I used to teach at YogaWorks in Santa Monica, until I moved here in March. My focus is beginner to intermediate Vinyasa Flow. Vinyasa Flow is a series of yoga postures blended together through movement and breath. Its very relaxing yet invigorating.

My background is in massage therapy and structural integration. I did yoga for 10 years before I became an instructor. I found myself encouraging my clients to take yoga to supplement the massage work they were receiving. Eventually this lead to me studying yoga because I realized my clients needs were individual and I wanted to give them a personalized practice which was specifc to their goals of optaining optimal health. My studies in yoga have included a mix of Iyengar, Ashtanga and Anasura.

In September I will be teaching in a new yoga studio that will be opening near the Vikualinmart. This will allow for me to continue to teach small private groups but also provides a larger space for more people to enjoy yoga together.

Please, send me a PM providing me with times and days that work for you, briefly describe your experience with yoga and finally, what you want to acheive through yoga.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Namaste~

Wow! Great day for ultimate!!! So much fun - and what a fantastic turn-out. Great to see so many faces and fun to play with some who will be leaving soon.

Thanks everyone!

Abs-Marie says hi.
DrivinWest
I'm in an enormous amount of pain. Cheers to judders and his bro who were on point today. They carried us skins!
Weenskii
Aweful lot of fun guys, thanks. Hope to be able to make it again soon. Quite the workout!
Ulysses
Watched you guys play a bit today. Alas no-one asked me if I wanted to join, I was really hurt. Anyhow, reading now how you guys are all in pain, I can only shudder at the thought of you guys playing a real gamer like touch or football!
one51
Err, Ulysses: sorry you were left out, but no one asked me if I wanted to join the 1st day either. I showed up, put on cleats, and started throwing a disc around. smile.gif Next time just jump in, everyone's welcome. If you don't think Ultimate is a "real game," well... I won't say anything.

Nice game! I hope we continue to get so many people. Next time we could try 7-on-7 with "last back" rule for substitutions. Basically, losers team: first seven people to the line play the next point. It's simple:
- winning team, all 7 can stay on (unless they WANT a sub)
- losing team, anyone from sidelines can go in at the end zone
- other losing team members can either run to the line for the remaining spaces, or if they are too tired to run, walk to the sideline and take the sub they need anyway

It works great to get people subbed out before they are TOTALLY wiped out. And, people on the sidelines won't have to wait for one of those about-to-die folks to own up to the fact they need a sub.

lastly, BRING WATER... and not just a wimpy 1/2L bottle, at least 1 to 2L. cool.gif
Abs
Awesome game today! Like Haynous said, it was great to see all the new people out there today who ran like crazy and picked up the sport so quickly. Cant wait to see you all soon!

I like One51's idea and think we should give it a go. As long as we can keep the teams straight, we should be golden.

It's amazing that it's Sunday night, and I am already looking forward to next Sunday (gone on Wed- doh!) for a good game of Ultimate among good, newly met friends. I love it! You are all making it quite tough to go! Have a wicked good week! cool.gif
BostonSportsFan
Great game today! I was definitely tired after that one. I won't be able to make it Wednesday (final exams), but I'll definitely be there Sunday.

Gotta give major props to judders for having total disregard for his own personal safety on the field today! Guy was nuts!
Ulysses
Thanks One51, I might as well be a bit more proactive next time. The required level of skill scared me off a little to be honest! Maybe, I'll try it out sometime for a laugh...
Showem
Yeah, it sounds like you guys are getting way more organised. Kind of puts me off trying again when I have time...

Right, I'll be knocking some heads together when I get back then! All are welcome, and we cater for all levels of skill. Usually if there are enough people when beginners are about we split into two games, one a bit more committed than the other. It usually just takes the one session to learn the rules, and then everything is fine and dandy.

If you want to come down again, drop me a PM and get my mobile number: I'm happy to meet up at the U-bahn station if it's too scary just to come along and introduce yourself.

EDIT: And that goes for you too showem! Come down and have a giggle, don't stress about anyone outplaying you [I certainly don't, and towards the end of a session I'm not running any more]
Showem
I promise I will soon. Seeing how fighting fit Greg has become playing Ultimate, I really want to play again. It's just a bit tough on Wednesdays when I work until 20:00. Next Sunday hopefully though...
Sylwiak
[COLOR=blue]Hi! I would like to come and to try it. What should I do? What to bring? How to dress? I'm total beginner. Sylwia
brokenm
Just show up and look for people throwing a frisbee speaking English. Easy to join. Typically people just wear a small swimsuit as it can get really hot! But bring a dark one and a light one so you can play on either team.

No, really just bring something comfortable to wear that you can run in. Good shoes are recommended, but someone was playing barefoot yesterday. And bring a bottle of water as it can become really hot!

What should I do?:
Come out Weds. at 6pm to the location on the map above (lower left hand side of the map there is a red dot). If that doesn't work, then Sundays at 4pm.

What to bring?:
Water, lots of water, and if you can swing it, both a light colored and dark colored shirt (that is how we do the teams usually, light shirts vs. dark shirts, and it helps if people have both... <also reminding other players on that one> tongue.gif )

How to dress?:
Sports cloths generally. Shorts, t-shirt, tennis shoes (or soccer shoes... anything with a little bit of grip generally). Just dress like you would if you were to run around a lot tongue.gif. I would also say do not bring anything which you want to keep clean (just in case). We play on grass, and we it is easy to end up with some dirty clothes.

I'm total beginner:
We all had to start somewhere wink.gif so we won't hold it against you.
samy
hi
i would like to give it a try. where is the venue for this wednesday?
-samy
jip
Welcome to Ultimate!

If you take a look at the map on the first post, there is a red dot in the lower left area. That is the venue for Wednesdays.

I can't wait for Weds. Sounds like we are gonna have a great group going and a good number of people!!!

@all the new players - Great to hear the interest. May have to get some of you to post again after Weds. to prove to the people worried about coming out that we don't bite wink.gif

@admins/ben/whoever - would it be possible to edit the picture to list the names on the dots for better reference between location name and location in the picture?
samy
Thanks Jip,

Somehow I haven't yet tried out hot-air ballooning (or gliding) otherwise that red spot would have been easier to figure out. Please give an easier reference (U-Bahn Giselastr. and which way next) for this down to earth crawler.

Samy.
BostonSportsFan
Samy: Get off the U3/U6 at Gieselastrasse. Exit the north end of the u-bahn station and walk towards the English Garden (east). You'll enter the English Garden along the road for the buses that cut through the EG. On the left there's a giant field, we'll usually be close by where you first enter that field.
samy
great BSF and Jip,

Thanks for the directions. See you on wednesday.

Yeup, as alluded to in other posts, the Wednesday session will be Giselestrasse at 6pm. All welcome, beginners or otherwise. If it is raining, we'll still be playing. If it is thundering, we'll still be playing. If it is flooded, we'll be swimming, but still attempting to play.

Although brokenm occasionally plays in his thong, most of us prefer it when he wears a t-shirt and shorts biggrin.gif

If anyone wants to meet up at Giselestrasse U6 stop and can't understand the map on the first post, just PM me and get my telephone number. I tend to keep the phone in my pocket during the warm up anyway.

Just wanted to say that I noticed the topic has been 'promoted' to one of the four always-on-top topics in Sports in Munich. We rule.
benpanter
...and staggeringly, we now have more views than the touch thread... just have to set our sights higher and see if we can catch up with Badminton rolleyes.gif

This is so, sooo, soooo sad. But now I'm hooked.
brokenm
Well, I will post to increase the competition with badminton
jayhay
I'm looking forward to tomorrow... anyone know where we can get some cones to mark the pitch out?
DJ_Jazzy_Guff
Me not play fwisby this week cos me have to make the money for someone to love me long time

(to be read in an accent of your choice - answers on a postcard)

See you next Wednesday

UF Reminder:

You're lucky today. I can't make it either. Just got back from an exam and I've got another one (my last one!!!) tomorrow at noon. Clearly I need this evening to watch the Red Sox game via the internet... I mean study for the exam...

I'm definitely in for Sunday though.
