Hi,

Have you seen this Mother and toddler group in the "Au"? It's in Au, which means you will have to come by S and U-bahn, but it's really nice. I was there yesterday and looking forward to the next time. In fact, they are looking for new members.

I can tell you that there is a playgroup in Unterhaching -- I met a woman at a Biergarten who mentioned it, but I didn't get the details. I go to one in Gruenwald, that's held at the evangelisch church, even though it's just renting out the space -- so you might want to call the churches or ask at the Rathaus about it.

I run a playgroup called Munchkins in Putzbrunn. We have under 3's sessions 3 mornings a week and over 3's sessions the other 2 mornings. For further info please call me on 089 90777797.

Is Ottobrunn any good for you? I think the Rugrats still meet there. The contact details of this playgroup and many others in Munich (in Germany, in fact) are listed here: http://www.mehrsprachige-familien.de/spielgruppeneng.htm

Also worth checking out on the same site is the link to Familien-Kontakt-Forum.

Hi, there.

My family has just settled down in Unterhaching. My daughter is around two years and half. I think it is time to register for a place in a kindergarten for her. But many told me that in Germany, only children older than three years can be accepted in kindergartens--and as German say three years old, they mean it? If so, then it is really too bad and we have to wait for another year.

I am wondering if there are any kindergartens nearby which can care for children at the age of my girl? If not, any playgroups?

Thank you.

It's not as simple as saying they can't start until three. There are kindergrippe places where they take younger children but not every kindergarten has these. They are also usually full pretty quickly.

I had hoped are child would be able to start younger than three but there was no place. As soon as he is three they will take him though.

I haven't actually heard of one in Unterhaching but there could well be one as there are plenty of English-speakers in that area. Check this out for starters. http://www.mehrsprachige-familien.de/spielgruppeneng.htm. You'll find contacts for groups in Vaterstetten, Haar and Ottobrunn, and may find that people there know of a group closer to you.

Thanks Pas and Tiger,

I went to two kindergartens in Unterhaching and nobody is there. Seemingly they are en vacances.

I then tried to call, and could not understand a word in autoreply...

Do you perhaps know that when it is proper I go over again to do some registration for my girl, given 1st Sept being the first day for children return?

Thanks a lot.

Try asking at your local townhall (Gemeinde) - there is usually someone there who coordinates things and manages registrations, and they could tell you if there are any free spaces in the local kindergartens and/or nurseries.

Most kindergartens have closed for the summer holidays now although some do offer a holiday service for the children already registered.

Thank you very much, Tiger.

Hi, there.

I live in Unterhaching. And after the grand vacation season, I called several of gemeinde kindergartens. They are good but I have to wait until perhaps next Jan, or March (my girl was born in March), or even later. Nobody would like to give me a promise that I may get a space by then.

Therefore, I am searching for a private kindergarten or preschool or something similar in hoping for put my girl there at least two days a week. I am wondering if there is any in the neighborhood. Please share with me any related info if you happen to have it.

Many thanks.

You should try Jogolis Kindergarten. it's bilingual and takes children from age 2. It's near OstBahnhof and would take 15mins max from unterhaching (by car). My child attends and loves it and I know there are others from Unterhaching who attend.
