Every Friday from 6pm until 7.30pm we play indoor five-a-side football at the Olympiapark SoccaFive Arena. Up-to-date details of the play can be found on the live discussion topic here:

Indoor five-a-side football games - Fridays @ Olympiapark

in munich i believe there is quite a big park called the English Garden. if you find 4 other lost souls and maybe a ball of some description there you go...5 aside football.
Dbargna
thanks, I know the English Garden, but I was hoping to play indoors somewhere in the winter.

cheers
David
Jimbo
Not sure the Germans play much 5-a-side I'm afraid. Must be a sports hall where you could organise a game? And Flooger - wouldn't you need 9 lost souls, unless the game was intended to be very one sided?
flogger
dont you flooger me jimmy.
och aye.
Showem
I do know they play some indoor soccer, but I'm not sure which teams do. You probably have to contact all the clubs separately and ask. Or you could try asking at the "House of Football" (Haus des Fußballs), Briennerstr. 50, Tel: 089/542770-0
Dbargna
cheers sounds good, I'll give them a bell
3 Lions
Count me in if you get anywhere. I asked a couple of friends a while back and they came up with the old 'Use coats as goalposts in English Garden'.
JAM
Did you guys get anywhere with the 5 aside footie? I'm up for some 5 aside if you've got some games organised.

Let me know...
3 Lions
OK, so its now a little too cold for the football.

However I noticed a small enough pitch with two sets of nets made out of metal on Rosenheimstrasse just before you get to the bridge. It looks to me like a hocky pitch, but it can easily be easily used.

Now not too sure about all these courts, do you have to book them or do you go on whenever you like?
Jimbo
We won the war, so I say we just annex them to Toytown and only leave when a German 'official' rolls up in his little tank. Name a Sunday late morning, and i'll be there...
3 Lions
So just need 8 more players and a ball.

And anyone brave enough to play in this weather. But I suppose if those Bayern puffs can do it, so can we tongue.gif
jaxon
hey will be up for that also live with two irish guys who would be keen as well so let us know of a date and we will see what we can do
krisawatson
I'm one of the Irish guys Jaxon mentioned i'm def up for a game of five-a-side! We have a ball also there is a pitch near where we live in Rotkrautzplatz (just incase the other pitch is unavailable)!
fusilli
I'm game for some soccer. You can count the pasta man in. Indoor sounds a lot more appealing though. I actually met a guy who plays on an indoor league here in munich from the U.S. He asked me to play with him sometime this month. I gave him my number and am awaiting his call. If he decides to call about it i'll let you guys know. However we were a bit drunk at the time.
andybannon
I'm up for a game big time. I played a fair bit in the English Garden last year but that won't be happening for another few months so am looking for some 5 a side action for sure. Keep us posted on the website.

Cheers,

Andy

I´d be up for some 5-a-side. All this beer and würst isn´t great for the waistline. Surely we should be able to muster 10!

It seems that the Germans do play 5-a-side, I think they call it Hallen Fußball or something similar. It was on telly (DSF) a few weeks ago, some sort of tournament, it took me back to the indoor six-a-side tournament that the premiership teams (or 1st Div as it was) played in about 15 years ago - impossible to imagine 15m pound players being allowed to do that today! (Maybe I only remember it cos Forest won it! - don´t do much of that nowadays!))
Dunsinane
I think 5-a-side is quite popular in Munich, although only as a winter sport. However, the only way to play it seems to be if you're a member of a sports club with a hall. Or if you're a member of a football team that's invited to play in a tournament. There seems to be almost no suitable sports hall in Munich that takes day-to-day bookings.

Almost. There's a hall just off Schleissheimerstrasse not for from AmHart ubahn, I think it's called Sport Park Schwabing. They used to have an internet site - but now they don't.

Injoy offer something called "champ soccer" unsure.gif I'm planning a visit. If anyone's interested, I'll let you know if it's any good...
Dunsinane
Had a go at the INJOY champ soccer.

They have 4 courts bookable from 7:15am untill 11:45pm. So if you don't want to play between 6pm-9pm you'll find the courts easy to book. At 48 euros for 45 minutes it's a little expensive. But the courts are in good condition.

It's probably the smallest 5-a-side court I've ever played on. So small in fact that I wouldn't recommend playing 5-a-side at all. It's a really good size for 4-a-side or even 3-a-side.

Each court is surrounded by boardings about 1.5m high. Then they have nets completely surounding each court (including a 4m high overhead net). That means the ball never goes out of play, so although 45 minutes isn't long, the only chance to catch your breath is when a goal is scored.

On the whole I was impressed and would recommend it.
Jimbo
Sounds good - I'm game. Any takers for perhaps a Saturday kickabout??
fusilli
I'm down...for some SOCCER
Jimbo
@Fusilli - only if you can first demonstrate the off-side rule to a woman on a pub table (the demonstration, not the woman) using a selection of small change, an empty packet of crisps, a bic dispoable lighter and a half smoked pack of Bensons.

If you can do that, you're in - nothing personal, just trying to keep charlatans out... tongue.gif (you wanker)
don_riina
Sorry Fusilli, you may as well forget it son. It would take years for you to understand the rules, accept that a draw is an acceptable result, that a goal is ONE goal, and not worth 9 points or anything, and you cannot play wearing an exoskeleton of body armour.
fusilli
haha, you tosspots...I'll have you know I played SOCCER for a long time. An avid soccer player. Starting varsity halfback on a team that made it to the NJ state Semifinals in 1999 Group 5. So go eat a dick ya wankers. biggrin.gif (jus messin around)...
fusilli
Francesco Totti taught me everything he knows...
3 Lions
Cant do anything for the next couple of Saturdays, but as soon as we get the court booked, I am of course in.

And just to make sure this will be a non serious kick around(Especially as I have done no exercise since I have been in Munich), and that if any girls do want to play, they are of course welcome.
Showem
Hmmm... tempting... what kind of shoes are necessary on indoor courts? I have doubts that my studded Adidas are what are required.
Jimbo

You what!?!?!? Nah, go on, fair's fair - none will show up though.

"Halfback"? Don't you mean quarterback? Or fullback?
don_riina
Or centre-half
3 Lions
Chatting to one of the guys last night at Bondi and his wife is a keen 'Soccer' player. Plus Amimeli also played when she was younger. So I think a few would be interested.

And given the quality of football I will be playing, no doubt some may play better than I will.
Dunsinane
@don_rina - laugh.gif brilliant biggrin.gif

@showem

forgot to mention. The courts are astro-turf! As astro-turf goes it's good quality and any kind of trainers you can imagine kicking a ball with will be fine. They have a ban on moulded boots and studded boots, but that maybe goes without saying.
fusilli
Fullback is not only a running back in football, but a defensive position in soccer. tongue.gif If I can get some more Americans I say we make this a Pom vs. Ami game.
Dunsinane
define "pom"
don_riina

Even if I was fit enough to handle real 5 a side, I was never any bloody good at football anyway. Even our "halfback" american who apparently learnt all his defensive football from Totti (??!?!?) would be better than I.

Won't be a ref though I presume, so I'll teach him a few Ron 'Arris tricks tongue.gif
fusilli
Wankers from England, according to an Aussie... wink.gif
Tif
Keep em comin fusilli... As Don mentioned, all Chopper 'Arris moves will be executed explicitly in your direction. mad.gif
Showem
Well, if I don't play, I could ref, seeing as I'm a qualified one. But reffing isn't much fun really, it's annoying enough being told by strangers I can't do my job, nevermind by people I have an acquaintance with. I'd rather play and knock Jimbo over a few times with a well-timed hip check. smile.gif
fusilli
I just want Tif to play so I can throw him in the net..
krisawatson
I'm game for Sat! Wot time? and how do we get to this pitch?
Jimbo
QUOTE

I am the Northern European Pele - you wouldn't catch me love. Nice thought though. tongue.gif
Jimbo
Someone better decide a time, and get directions to this place and post to see who can make it - I can't this Saturday, or the one afterwards I'm afraid as I'm out of town both weekends. Weekend of 21st is a possible for me...
Dunsinane
Getting to the place is easy enough. Wilhelm-Hale-Str bus stop is about 50m from INJOY. You can get the 183 bus to there in about 5 minutes from either Westendstrasse or Rotkreutzplatz Ubahn stations
don_riina
Northern European Pele?

What, a genial friendly old man who looks a bit like Bill Cosby??
3 Lions
Same for me as well, so looks to me as though the 20th is the earliest for myself.
Jimbo

Ur confusing me for Showem there mate...
amimeli
As 3 Lions wrote, I would be interested in playing soccer with you guys. But I don't think I want to be the only female playing. So I'll have to convince the other American gal to come along too. I'm not afraid unless you guys decide to take it too seriously. Remember 3 Lions is afraid to head the ball. So take it easy on him. smile.gif

We U.S. women know how to play soccer. In the U.S. soccer is a woman's sport...Hence the new socio-economic group of "soccer moms." (Trendy young mothers who play soccer who also have young kids who play soccer.)
Hazza
If this is going to be social, I would also be interested. I played 4 a-side indoor in a social league back at home for a while and it was heaps of fun.

Very tiring too!!
Pascoe
Good to meet you guys last night and I would be interested in playing footie too, most weekends should be fine
Dbargna
I managed to play in the Military University near Unterhaching on Friday, I'll try and find out how to book it

cheers
d
krisawatson
