Women run around with scissors cutting off men's ties.

This is all a build up to Rosenmontag, when there is a big Fastnacht carnival through town.

I only wish I lived in Freiburg. Smaller than Hamburg, close to mountains, France, Switzerland, great climate.

Hi, my husband and I have been living in Menzenschwand near St Blasien for the last two years and we would love to meet up with other English speakers (we're getting pretty desperate for a conversation in English)! Menzenschwand is a ski and spa resort about 45 mins from Freiburg. Our website is www.thegrunenberg.com. Hi, we have a guest house - plus I have a day job still working for a company in the UK, so between breakfast for the guests, working and then dinner for the guests there's not much time to do anything else! We are about a 45 min drive from Freiburg.

well hopefully i could pop out there some time...don't have a car tho so if anyone else is interested on this site and has a car i'd be wiling to chip in for petrol

Hi Dave, yes you take the train from Freiburg to Schluchsee and then the bus over to mountain direct to Menzenschwand, or via St Blasien. All very pretty. More info on our website www.thegrunenberg.com. We'll help if we can with transport, just depends on what else is happening that day!

i recommend anyone having a hard time with the german experience to go to Gunenberg's guest house. Amazing area and equally amazing people. Had a great time cheers
