Horse riding in the Frankfurt area

I'm missing getting out in fresh air and would love to take up horse riding again. I'm an experienced rider. Can anyone recommend a place in the Frankfurt area or outside that is accessible by public transport?

thx

One of my co-workers goes riding in the Taunus. We are off work now til April 11th but I will find out where she goes when we get back.

linmor, when I lived in Oberursel, I used to pass this place everytime I took the U3 into Frankfurt:

Reitclub Niederursel

Even if it's not a riding school you're looking for, they might be able to offer you some useful advice, and it's certainly easily accessible from Frankfurt by public transport.

On the subject of things equestrian does anyone know of a decent size online tack shop (German of course smile.gif ). I've googled it and only found smallish ones.
I am specifically looking to find out what the German equilvent to our
"pass wide and slow" type instructives on reflective road wear is (or even if they bother with it at all. )
Maybe they just go for plain reflectives, no words.

Danke Schön

ok, pick myself up from the floor laughing... you have to be kidding right? This is the country where they don't even wear hats when they go out riding. I've seen a girl from my stables go out on the road bareback, no hat, shorts and sandals, and her 4 year old son riding in front of her, (also no hat).

I've seen riders ride along the main road, in the dark, with no hats, or reflective gear/lights whatsoever...

There's a saying that if you think you don't need to protect your brains, you probably don't...

Do they not wear reflective gear
ever?
So I would have to get it sent from England then?
Wow I'm shocked!
The motorists must hate them.

Having grown up in Rural Essex, I always slow down when I see horses, if I see that the horse is skittish, I'll even dip the clutch and coast to cut down on engine noise.

I have never ever seen any other truck driver do this here, and only the Brit horsey community that I see out and about in the Sennelager area ever appreciates my good will gesture sad.gif

You could do worse than trying Krämer. You will get loads of mail order catalogues from them if you order, but most of them are useful at some time...maybe...

My wife orders loads of stuff from there and the quality and the prices are ok!

Look on the left-hand menu for Sicherheit, click it and scroll down, they seem to have lots of relective gear for both horse and rider...

Robinsons near Haydock Park used to be our favourite tack shop - but it burnt down - are they still there? Oh I suppose I can look online :$

Slack you are a gentleman Sir. biggrin.gif
Question is, do you slow down for frogs as well? wink.gif

Alien, bless you. Brilliant link. biggrin.gif

www.robinsons-uk.com

"Then, on September 19th, disaster struck. That evening, a fire utterly destroyed our store - which was still open at the time. Thankfully, all the staff and customers were safely evacuated but nothing could be done to save the building or its contents. Now, more than ever before, Robinsons had to rely on our Mail Order reputation.
As a result of the fire, the construction and eventual reopening of our new Superstore took up much of our time in 2003. When the big day finally arrived, over 2,500 people came along to visit, making it one of our busiest ever days! The new Superstore at the same site is much larger, better designed and retains all the most popular aspects of the old store, particularly the Nosebag Café and the Haydock Room. We were keen to ensure that everything we had learned about retailing in the last 30 years was incorporated into the design of the new Superstore."
thanks Guys biggrin.gif

Not unless there is a fit bird wearing next to nothing riding it... then I'd probably even stop wink.gif

SlackMack, that's very considerate of you, thanks. Often lorry drivers don't do this, or they brake, and with air brakes that makes a terrible noise. I personally don't ride on main roads, as I don't think its fair to expect horses to put up with lots of traffic passing by closely, but I know that some people have to. Consideration on both parts is a good thing. Often drivers underestimate how close they are, or how fast they are, or how quickly a horse can go from plod to jack-in-the-box - often with disastrous results. Bikes coming from behind a horse can spook it - they seem to produce a high pitched noise that the horse hears, but we don't.

Another thing about many lorry drivers which used to drive me mad (excuse pun) in the UK, was when I was driving my car and pulling a trailer with horses, lorries would come very close behind the trailer (can often frighten the horses) then pull out suddenly and cause me problems with the slipstream (is that the right word?)

Thanks reggie, I'll look into it. From the website they do seem to offer to riding outs. And Lidl are having horse gear specials from next Monday. Just as while since I left my boots back in home country again.

Lidl Horsey Gear

I hope that link works.

Whether it's the correct word or not is beyond me, but I know what you mean.

The only way to avoid it in my opinion is to travel at 90kmph on the Autobahn (or 60mph on UK motorways) which is comparable to the average truck speed; I’ve noticed the air rush is greater when the overtaking vehicle is travelling at a considerable higher speed than the slower vehicle.

You may also notice that the problem is greater in the UK due to the greater usage of 6 axled, articulated higher sided, heavier trucks with cause a more disruptive slipstream than the European conventional truck.

Their website is out of date and they don't answer the phone. So I went in person to check it out. It is very handy for U3.

They are open and it's a club that you join. They have a tryout hour every Saturday for adults. If you get on ok, you can sign up to join. Which includes an hours riding a week for 45 euros a month. Seems very reasonable! With extra riding costing 12 euro per hour. The best thing is the tryout is free!

So I'm going next Saturday to try it out. I will post to let anyone interested know how I get on, in case I miss understood the Lady. But the probestunde is kostenlos.
