Guys and gals...
I have a friend over to visit this weekend - she swears that she has read about an outdoor icerink in Frankfurt and desperately wants to go. All well and good, except I havent got a clue if there is such a thing...any ideas?
Also - she wants to go to Rheingau/Weinstrasse...does anyone know if the wine places are actually open at this time of year??
All comments welcome! Ta

The Eissporthalle has an outdoor rink as well as an indoor one!
You need to check if it is open though some weekends it is closed for matches/practice!
I was there on Tuesday and if I remember rightly it costs 6€ for adults and 3€ for skate hire!
EissporthalleNot sure on the wine places sorry but I am sure there would be some places open - there is a large international Christmas market in Rüdesheim but I would personally want to avoid it like the plague!

I haven't been to the outdoor icerink for years but always had an excellent time there. I don't think the ice hockey games affect the outdoor rink because they're inside.
It's skating around in the dark and there's also a Glühwein stall if you fancy a drink.
If you're a bit of an amateur and are pleased if you can get around without falling over, it is really hard work. I was sweating cobs and had major aches in my legs for days afterwards!
Hope you enjoy it

You wonderful people - thanks. I hadnt actually thought about the effort required for the ice skating part... or the risk to life and limb! Am sure it will all be worth it

Actually, another idea could be Taunus Therme, or whatever its called. Is it any good, and how can you get there via public transport??
Drops of wisdom always appreciated...

The Taunus therme is ok! I used to go there quite a lot.
You can get the S5 to Bad Homburg and then either walk or get a bus from there.
There is another spa time place I think it is called Kurhaus Royal or something in Bad Homburg this is apparently more expensive but much better. I have never been there though.

The Rebstockbad has quite a nice sauna area, about a dozen saunas, indoor and outdoor (wooden log huts) an outside pool, sunbeds and a bar! In the main swimming pool complex they also have some good slides & diving boards.
It's easy to get to, it's at the end of the No17 tram

I'm a huge fan of Panoramabad; it's small - clean, well-run and very, very relaxing (essentials oils and all). An entrance card costs 6 Euro for 2 hours, which includes sauna & swimming. I try to go once a week ... hehe, not telling the time/day though!! Ps. Thursday's are women only days!
TIP: Be sure to take part in the sauna "aufguss" (steam infusion with essential oils) at the top of every hour ... it's unglaublich!! And if you're interested in a massage - check out the on-site masseur - he comes highly recommended, and is highly specialized!

Remember that saunas in Germany is get-yer-cock-out time. May not be a problem, but some Brits think that showing your naughty bits is as disgusting as having sex with a small mammal.

6 Euros seems cheap considering the "service" they offer ... But as you said, size obviously doesn't matter...
But please spare us the details ...

Thanks for the ice rink tips - we went down, and once we just used to the idea of seeing the motorway in the background and the almost absolute lack of any attempt to make it feel Xmassy, it was a blast! Will definitely be back
As for the sauna... well, if Micky goes there...
