I've been trying to find out for about a month now if there are any social ice hockey teams for women here in Munich. Anyone with any info or advice about who I can contact, please help! My skates are getting rusty and I really need to get out on the ice sometime SOON...

Sorry, dont think you will find much of that via Toytown.
A suggestions though. Try posting on the
ehc münchen forum. I would guess there must be some rec teams about here somwhere. Have heard of a few uni teams, but have no contacts
GOod luck

Try the Ice Rink at Prinzregentenplatz. They seem to have a number of social teams practicing there.
Failing that I can give you details of friends of mine who play in a mixed social league out of Augsburg

you will find some social eishockey at the olympic stadium in Garmisch. For more information stick a post up on
www.scr-privat.de or www.scr.de. Roman is the author or the former and he will give you the details you need

Caitlin, once you find a team, let me know, I have been looking for about 2 yearrs (not too seriously though), and cannot find a women's team for social playing. I am thinking of going to a men's league. Met a Canadian guy on the weekend at a party, and they need players.

I've never actually tried ice hockey, is there somewhere as a complete beginner you can try it out? It looks a bit of a larf.

This is a long shot judging from the lack of previous responses but does anyone know of an adult recreational ice hockey league that plays during the summer? I'll be in Munich for two months and would like to continue playing.
Thanks,
Elliot

You will be hard-pressed finding a summer hockey league over here. A lot of the rinks get rid of the ice outside of the hockey season to reduces maintanence costs. The best you will find are inline hockey leagues

Figured as much. We play year round here in Connecticut - it's the only way I can keep my old bones moving. Thanks for the reply!

Interesting, even in MN only about 1/3 of the arenas maintain ice...
I bought some rollerblades when I moved here...it's not the same, but it helps. Plus, my skates literally fell apart on me. I need some decent cheap ones...nearly impossible, but since I've got really big feet, maybe I can luck out at that place at the

We've got a pretty high population density in my area so they keep things busy year round. Our adult league has like 30 teams.
I forgot to ask whether there is any pickup ice hockey in Munich in the mornings. But I suspect the ansewr is the same.

Well, there are quite a few hobby leagues and the like, but they do not tend to play with any real regularity. The Hobby teams are usually run by the Fan Clubs of the main teams. I do know of quite a few around the Augsburg area and may be able to put you in touch with some of them. They do, however, rarely play in the mornings

Thanks but I was hoping for a friendly weekly game in the am or pm.
I did play in a tournament in Frankfurt last year organized by our company, Allianz-Dresdner. We had teams from London, Cologne, Frankfurt, Munich and somewhere else. If that's what a friendly game is locally, forget it. Full contact, people getting injured, etc. I have to go to work the next day!

To be fair, the hobby leagues are pretty friendly and injuries only occur if you cause them yourself. Checks etc are heavily regulated and rough stuff is not tolerated. The team I was with was a mixed team and the abilities ranged from appalling (me) to not bad. Nothing mind-blowing but a good laugh nonetheless

I have been here 5.5 years, an never found a pick up game. I have also never found a rec league, I am willing to play in a men's rec league, but seems I cannot find one.
hockey here is absolute shit, I did practice with a team in Meisbach a few years ago, one of the top teams in the women's league, but they were shit IMO, so I have been looking to hook up with a mens team to play some real hockey.

Hi everybody,
I'm about to start a study abroad program in Munich, and wanted to know if their is any friendly adult league hockey or pickup hockey that would be accessible to a poor student reliant on public transportation. I've been trying to search online for rinks, but my German is quite... well... non existent at the moment (Rosetta Stone works only when you use it... lame), and I haven't been able to find anything. My home stay family is located off the S6 subway I believe if that helps...
Thanks fellow ex patriots!
