According to this news item today on the This Is London website the iconic Trabant:

In a way I find that rather sad. Not that I think the Trabbi is a great car to drive (I'm not that bonkers), but still; another icon of the former DDR wiped away. mellow.gif

They could at least give it a more eco-friendly engine whilst leaving the exterior design intact couldn't they?

Actually the final models built, after the Wall fell, or rather was pushed, had a VW Polo engine in them instead of the smokey old 2-stroke the commies put in them, so they may still be ok. "Anorak mode off"

I heard that the Trabi Safari will still exist. The engines can be modified to achieve within the limits.
