In cooperation with
Expat Mat and
Hammonia, permit me to proudly announce the First Annual North-South Summit Event Ever (FANSEE) on Sunday 30.Sep.2007 from 11am through 5pm (open end elsewhere after the tent throws us out). At the moment I have been able to procure two tables à 10 people each at the Hofbräu Tent in Boxe no. 10 with Angie the Überbedienung.
The location may be subject to change, providing if I get spaces at
Schottenhamel instead but if you want to participate in this first-ever event please sign up here. The spaces are limited to 20 of which 6 are already bespoken by the organizers (we have all the fun).
The costs are app. €33 per person and include 2 beers, 1/2 chicken and the right of entry. I do have to ask for cash up front as being €660 out of pocket makes my mind boggle, and you do have to commit yourself or provide me with a substitute if you have to cancel. You get your money back after the replacement has paid.
Yeah, it's so terribly German, deciding seven months beforehand when you want to go on the piss, but it is the Wiesn.
Reserve your place via the
sign-up sheet. Keep in touch!

Thanks SB.
How are people going to get you the cash if they live all the way up in the North? Bank transfer?

Put the barricades up to stop the Northern Heathens passing the weisswurst grenze

I better take a ticket just to keep an eye on them

I'd love to come, but I suspect my usual pilgrims from the island will be arriving on that afternoon and you'd be gone, or too far gone, by the time we could get there.

darn, that is the Hash House Harriers weekend at the Fest, so we will be out running off our hangovers and drinking Mimosas.
Hammonia
Feb 14 2007, 11:36 am
Ha! Then we might fly down together with them, the more, the merrier

Thanks again Sara for organizing, great job!
Really looking forward to finally meeting you guys.
Question is now: where from do I get a
Dirndl? Or: will I be thrown out wearing a medieval dress?
sarabyrd
Feb 14 2007, 11:55 am
A
Dirndl is not de rigueur, especially not for a Nordlicht. But if you have the figure for it, why not.
Wiesn, Tracht & Mehr is my favorite shop for modern and traditional, so if you are here a few days early you can pop in there.
*I should charge them commission for everyone I send there!*
And they now have an
online shop! Not quite the assortment they have in the shop but you get the general idea.

Thanks Sara, might give it a thought - although I'm not really a dress kind of person... hmmm - could also borrow Mat's kilt - gnhahaaaa

A quick question on ethics for this meet up!! Hubby + me make 2 Muncheners, plus we have one US friend in Hamburg. But we also have two US mates based in Bosnia who would like to come along... is it ethical to add pesky furriners on a Hamburg/Munich meet up? If not no worries! I haven't even checked dates with them yet but thought I would ask given the Hamburg connection...

This is great idea and funnily enough the Frankfurters were talking about doing an Oktoberfest tour. The problem is we'd quite certainly be more than the 10 remaining spaces

Take what you can PM cos unless you've organised something your chances are evaporating ....

Well I just think of the rule we have for the Frankfurt Dining club - only 1 guest per member! If there are only 20 spaces and you have taken 5 of them, plus 6 for the organisers that only leaves 9 spaces for the rest of us out of all our members?
That is my two cents to it maybe other TTers would agree with me, maybe I am just being over the top I don't know

Yes I am aware of that! I personally have no problem in booking and trying to organise it in advance but I won't get any of the other FFers to commit to anything unless it is going down the pub in say 20 minutes! Yes I know we'll probably not have much chance of getting somewhere but maybe we could do something non Oktoberfest instead.

I guess most of Munichers see it differently, as we go alot on our own to the Fest, and Sara is great about getting tables for peeps. We do alot of impromtu stuff too for the Fest, and if its going to get a relative newbie out, I am all for it.
edit- nothing wrong with your thinking, just there are two sides to see it.

I know

I am provisionally in. Meaning I need to check my calender again at work tomorrow.
Ha I'll probably not be able to drink one of those maß thingies though as it'll only be a few weeks before the Frankfurt marathon and I'll need to be on low booze consumption

@bluedave, I sat comfy next to you
PM, space at the Wiesn is limited, I did well getting two tables on the first Sunday. As mentioned, I am also after tables in the
Schottenhamel tent, so maybe I can accommodate your lot as well. If FFM gets its act together next year I will go for 50 spaces (=5 tables). First Annual Germany Summit United = FAGS United. Oops, wrong tent ...

Well, we could have signed up as hubby + 1, me +1 and hamburger separately... we just happened to be online figuring out O'fest plans anyway when I spotted the Hamburg/Munich O'fest thread. So apologies if it looks like I'm hogging guests, I just happen to be the only one of three in germany who remembers her TT password!!

I will not know the prices for beer and chicken until May but I will provide everyone with my account/PayPal details beforehand. One I have posted the price I will need the payments pdq.
Cheers all, enjoy Starkbierzeit, Biergartenzeit and Sommerferien until the Wiesn rolls around again!

sarabyrd (and everyone else):
We will be taking a train from Prague to Munich on Tuesday, 02 October in the mid-afternoon, so we'll obviously miss the get-together on Sunday. Has anyone else planned a meet-up for the last weekend or any during the week? We'll be in Munich until the 9th so that gives us 5 good days in the tents, and it'd be great to meet up with you all. (We have res in the HB tent on Fri/Sat and pending res in Hippo on Sun, so if there's not an official gathering we might come up with some extra seats.)
Hope all is well over on your side of the pond. Can't wait to get there!
