This will be my second
Oktoberfest. My first in a kilt.

3 Lions, careful with that kilt. Some women can be pretty forward about finding out what's under it when you are O'fest.

Clearly I am missing something here.
@3Lions and Jimbo too - Why a kilt? For a wedding, IF the groom is a scot, then maybe, but AFAIK, neither of you are scottish atall. (OK, JV, I can see a vague reason why YOU might sport a kilt)
I really don't get it. Kilts seem to be becoming de rigeur wedding wear, regardless of any scottish blood involved - but why the Oktoberfest?
Nice piccy Ken, how many photos of you in a dress are there now on Toytown

How much would all that cost mate? I'm looking at kilts at around the 250 quid mark - in a suitable tartan, but cheaper if I go for the modern black tartan ones... And how much are reasonably priced Lederhosen???
@Don - I take your point mate and I have no real excuse other than to say that Debz is the main reason, the second being I don't fancy tight leather shorts, because whatever Showem and Katrina say about looking good in tight leather cut-off dungarees, I don't think anybody will EVER look good in that. Ever. I might of course go in Essex national dress, and therefore sport the Essex tartan - Burberry, with some rockport boots and a Stone Island jacket. Thing is, I'm not sure if the locals at the beer fest are gonna go a bundle on me pulling Nazi salutes all over the place and smashing up parked cars...

Well it didnt cost me anything, my mate arranged the hire. But as I recall it cost about 80quid for the full get up.
I have been looking at a couple of places in Scotland for my cousins wedding this year, hire prices are about the same, but they allow you to buy the kilt at the end of the hire minus the hiring fee. I am expecting the kilt to set me back about 300 quid or so.

Just been discussing with Debz - I reckon I'm gonna go fashion if I'm gonna go at all. It's cheaper and it looks better IMHO.

Right - here's the decider - do Lederhosen wearers get to carry knives? Apparently it's De Rigeur in Scotland to carry a f**k off big knife in your sock. Can the Bavarians top that? I assume some weaponry is allowed - they didn't take Poland merely with bad language, did they??
Showem

Jimbo, yes, you can carry a knife when wearing Lederhosen. There's even a special pocket on the side especially for it.

Note the knife pocket on the left hand side of the photo.
Another determining factor for you might be the macho tradition with the shirts. When you get a typical Trachten shirt, there is a space on the front for your name or initials. By tradition, only a woman can embroider it on there, so you can harass your girlfriend/wife/lover into doing it for you.

Showem is totally right, of course a knife is part of the Lederhose

Are there any more men out there willing to post pictures of themselves in a kilt?
Shorty has just realised that not everybody wears "Tracht", as their national costume, and I wanted to show her photos from a friends´wedding in Stirling, b ut they seem to have vanished......!
So, pictures please lads!!

Hi 3L,
Er, is that relevant? I mean, I have a lot of Irish blood in me, apparently, but I've never seen any men in the extended family wear a
skirt kilt.
(I know there's that whole Irish-Scottish thing).

Keydeck, how old is that picture? I 'hooked up'(only kissed!) with a Scot from Edinburg(or however you spell it) back in '99 (before I moved here in 2001) and we ended up at GM's.
Yeah, guys in kilts...they definitely melt a girl's....heart.

Although kilts have nothing to do with Ireland, there was a pan-Celtic movement a hundred years ago that tried to create or reverse-engineer an Irish kilt tradition. It never caught on in Ireland (except I think among army bagpipers and CBSI scout masters, say no more). But I think the Irish-Americans use them sometimes e.g. Boston police marching bands etc.

Although kilts have nothing to do with Ireland,
same could be said for Scotland but they were more successful in inventing the tradition. You can get Welsh kilts as well but few people bother with them.
The Pipes and Drums of the Royal Irish Regiment wear kilts, iirc.

The Rugby Team of Livingstone/Scottland is always at the Balcony of the Hacker Tent. They come every year for a couple of days. I meet them because my company used to reserve tables at the Hacker balcony. This year I missed them, because they were on the first couple of days.
