well. here i am in mannheim all by my lonesome. i am in the army coming from Fort Hood, TX. I have never been to Europe and i have to say "so far so good". i like it here, but i would like it more if A: i spoke German and B: if i knew some people here who weren't in the Army. I have taken the 5R to Paradeplatz and the surrounding areas, but i dont really know what im doing there. Im 25, and have a g/f...but she isnt here yet. Anyone bored enough to take a chance and meet me sometime...maybe we could get lost together?
my name is angie. get ahold of me sometime.

Hi Angie
I sent a reply to your message and even could see it attached with your message in the specificed area, but suddenly i see there is no reply to your message. I have encountered similar moments when i landed in Germany a few months back and i still have that hangover. Germany is a greaqt place to be in provided you succeed in making some good and like-minded friends.I am on a 3 year study programme in Ludwigshafen-Mannheim area. It will really really be nice if we can meet and talk about our likes and dislikes in Germany and help each other feel better during those meaningful and thematic talks. I am an Indian love to meet and talk to people who are genuinely interested in sharing their perception on various issues with others. U can confirm if the option is feasible. We can meet atleast once a week.
all the best

hey Guys!
I know how you guys feel! I'd also like to meet up with other people here in mannheim! I am lucky that my bf is german and lives here with me, but sometimes it would be nice to meet people that aren't german and talk english.

Hi all - just wondering how you guys are all settling in in Mannheim? My finace and I are currently waiting to hear whether we will be moving out there this summer, we currently live in London so it's a big decision to make. Do you have any feedback to give about your experiences so far? (I'm Scottish and he's French)

I just registered and wanted to say "Hello". I am planning to move to Germany at the end of the summer. Work is all set up and I expect to be living in Mannheim or thereabouts. Maybe once I have moved I will get a chance to meet some of you. Well that's all for now, but I am sure I will have questions soon enough! Anyone in the local area who feels like getting in touch with a new person in the area should feel free to drop me a line!

Oh dear, it's a slow day for me - for one second I thought you must know me!
I've had this username for a while and got used to it not really meaning much to most people, I guess moving to Germany changes that

Thanks for the replies... time to attend to my profile!

I´m working for a chemical company in Worms. They found me temporary accommodation. Once I buy a car I´ll be moving.

As you've probably guessed I'm new too. Moved just outside Heidelberg a few weeks ago with my boyfriend and it's all pretty sweet.
Er, that's it for now:-) I'll try and think of something more profound later. Or something.

Guten Tag...HI Everyone! I've been here 4 years and for another approximentally another 3...have enjoyed and love this country and Europe in general. It helped that I was raised in a multicuultural home and have learn to appreciate and enjoy different cultures. When I first moved here, it took about the first 6 months to overcome the craziness of moving,,,which exists no matter where you move to. What helps is to GET OUT OF THE HOUSE AND GO, GO, GO... I believe that through out the world, we have more in common than differences...and with those differences, we can learn much from each other. So, I just found this site and hope I will make some wonderful friends through this site and continue to learn, grow and laugh in this wonderful country.

Hi everyone, I moved here 5months ago and work from home so I'm going a bit crazy and would like to meet other Canadians here. My intro is pretty standard,my german sucks,i'm bored, lonely and want to hear more English. I moved here to eventually marry my girlfriend and I think my life is somewhat permanent here so I think its time to get my life moving socially. Thanks for reading and I look to forward to hearing from some friendly fellow Canadians.

I can't think of any Canadians that I've met on this bit of TT... but if you are not so fussy about that, there are a bunch of us who get together quite often - its a mix of nationalities

There are ongoing threads about the Mannheim quiz and about get-togethers in HD and in MH - if you are interested just come along

Hey, just posted in the Pub Quiz thread. I'm actually in LU, but who's counting, right? I just graduated from college, doing an internship at BASF. This is my second time living in Germany, last time was in Regensburg, Bayern. I did pub quiz there, too. Does anyone know anything about Ultimate frisbee around these parts? A team would be ideal, but even once weekly pickup would be better than nothing. Thanks!

Hi all,
I've been posting in the "general introduction" section this night, not knowing that people introduce themselves in regional topics, too.
I'm a 34 year old engineer who has been in NC, US, for the last 3 years. After my assignment was over, I had to move back to Bruehl as my wife thought that our little one should better start school in Germany.
So, now I'm back and I'm already missing the US and my colleagues.
I'm looking for people who want to "socialize" in the Heidelberg / Mannheim area. As we usually go out as a family, I'm not really looking at meeting in pubs, etc. but rather like meeting in nice parks (I don't know, but the German playgrounds are not the same as they are in the US) to hang out, have a picnic or so.

I moved to Mannheim a couple of months ago to give my marriage another try. Husband is working here in IT. I am not working (no permit) and I do not speak a word of German though I will start school in January to learn (very excited). I have never had to start over and I am lost. There is only so much vacuuming and laundry a girl can do… I am becoming seriously stir crazy. I have always worked and now my days are horribly long. Any suggestions on how to start over in a new country? Any English speakers in the Mannheim area that would like to meet up for a coffee?

My friend is having a halloween party tonight, if that helps. Nothing big, but I do know of another T.O. girl that will be there. We're about a half hour from Mannheim.
That invitation, by the way, is open to anyone not doing anything tonight that would like to do something tonight.

Now that I've built up enough clientele in Frankfurt to set my hours, I can finally take some time to meet you guys...and hit the gym after gaining weight from German food. LOL
I'm off on Sundays (though I have local clients every Sunday in the evening), Mondays, and Wednesdays and finally broke down and bought a monthly Mannheim Trolley pass (GAWD, I miss my Jeep) so I can have a coffee with you whenever. And maybe I can finally get around to going to one of those Fortnightly shindigs that JodieJo has been so patiently reminding me about a half-dozen times.

My internet was down all weekend! I would have loved to have gone to a party and met up with another T.O. girl. Sigh...
I will see if we can get out this week to one of the Tuesday or Thursday meet ups. Our furniture is finally arriving this week and we need to do alot of shopping. I can't believe how long it takes to get furniture here. 12 weeks we have been living out of boxes. But as the stores were closed this Saturday we are stuck doing everything after the husband gets home from work this week.
Synfoola, if you are available for coffee during the day, let me know and we could meet up. Thanks!

Hi Bea,
Tennisplayer added a couple of links in his post above. There are several of us in the area and we meet up reasonably frequently in HD and MA. I am sure that we'll be hitting the christmas markets when they open in a few days. Just keep your eye out in the mannheim/heidelberg fortnightly drinks thread (we met fortnightly about twice and thereafter randomly).
Hope to see you out and about sometime soon!
