Hi there
Does anybody have any recommendations for babysitters, maybe somebody has a regular babysitter who they use and trust? Am interested in finding someone to use for occasional evenings out or even daytime hours (gives me chance to get to the gym). Would pay good rates? (Prob about 10 euros an hour)... Must be quite experienced with kids though.
Please let me know if you do, thanks

It might be useful to let us know where in Hamburg you are looking for a babysitter... Don't think anybody would like to travel from Eimsbüttel to Bergedorf or so...?!

I met ShellAndrews at the ladies' games night yesterday, and we talked about the problem.
We suggested to her to try and find a "Tagesmutter" (Day-mom) in her area. Can be found via "Jugendamt" (Department of Youth and Family Services), they have addresses of certified day-moms, otherwise you could check the "Stadtteilzeitung" (local newspapers) that many districts have, or the notice boards that many supermarkets have.
To have a "Tagesmutter" is a very common thing in Germany. Normally it's stay-at-home-moms with small kids who "adopt" other children during the day. How many days per week and how many hours per day is usually pretty flexible, so that if you only want one or two days off to go to the gym or for some me time, or if you have part-time work, it's normally not a problem, but 5 days per week should also be fine - it all depends on the Tagesmutter.

Hi there!
I had big troubles finding bbsitter, now I'm sorted out so I can give you a few tips to make life easier

First of all there's a list of babysitters on International school message board, most of them are high school kids, sometimes teachers.
Then you can advertise yourself at Kostenlose Kleinanzeige (KIJIJI
http://hamburg.kijiji.de/) or look up for babytitters who advertise there (go to Dienstleistungen, then Kinderbetreung). That's how I foun my other babysitter.
Also try the same at Jobportal at Hamburg University,
http://www.stellenwerk-hamburg.de/.
And also you can try Jugendamt at the district you live for list of babysitters and Tagesmutter.
Good luck!

Hi. My name is Elizabeth, I am a 25 year old Kindergarten teacher from the states. I am leaving my position in August in order to move to Hamburg with my husband, while he participates in a law school study abroad semester (September-January) at Bucerius Law School.
We will be living in the Alsterdorf area, but I am willing to travel all over Hamburg in order to work with children of all ages. I do not speak German, however, I have taught students of all languages in my classroom and I am not worried about language barriers.
At a very young age I knew that I wanted to be a teacher, so I found an outlet as I worked towards my goal by babysitting and nannying for over 12 years. I have worked with many amazing families who have children of all ages; I am able to provide references and a cv with photos upon request.
I am passionate, organized, flexible, and excited about working with children in a new and special location of the world! I would love to tutor people in English, take care of children during the day or during the evening, I am willing to cook, clean, and help any household run smoothly.
Please contact me if you or someone you know is looking for a babysitter, nanny, or a home-helper.
I would love to hear from you!

Hi there,
I'm looking for a 'baby'sitter for my daughter (4 yrs old). We usually live in England but are in Hamburg regularly - long-distance relationship.

It's quite central, very close to the U-Bahn Stephansplatz. Unfortunately I can only afford to pay 8 euros/hour, as I'm a student... Please get in touch with me via the forum or carla@gmx.co.uk. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi there,
we just returned back to Hamburg after living for 5 years abroad. Our two kids (a daughter of 3 1/2 and a son of 15 months) grew up with the help of an English speaking nanny. We would like to keep there language skills going and are urgently looking for somebody nice, reliable and English speaking to look after them during the day while we both are working. The older one will be in kindergarten from mid October on, but the younger one not before next summer earliest. Also a 'tagesmutter' with already other kids in her group would be great.
We live in the area around Hamburg University, very easy to reach by subway and/or bus.
Looking forward hearing from you!
Best regards,
Fabienne

Hi Fabienne,
I am not sure if you received my reply to your previous message, but I would love to work with your family. I am a kindergarten teacher in the states with a great deal of childcare experience. I am energetic, organized, friendly, and most of all I have a passion for being around children. I will be arriving in Hamburg on Tuesday--please email me at elizabethjaspers@gmail.com because I am still looking for a family to take care of while I am in Hamburg through January and my schedule is open and available!
Thank you so much!
