I'm looking for an affordable gym in Charlottenburg -- I'm only here for another two months, so annual rates are no good. I don't need anything fancy, or any fitness classes. Just elliptical machines, stationary bikes, treadmills, etc.

Hey,

I will be in Berlin for a month this summer studying. I am looking for a place to work out and have looked at many of the threads on this site. The only problem is that many of the gyms seem to require a long-term commitment. Something like McFit (it seems) would be ideal. It has very flexible hours, which would be perfect. Alas, beggers can't be choosers. Does anyone have any recommendations of somewhere I could work out while I am there that wouldn't require a long term commitment. I will be in Prenzlauer Berg, if that helps.

Thanks!
Jamesm
The only snag with McFit is that you have to sign up for a year's membership like most gyms in Berlin.

You could try "Jason's" - very nice gym. On the little square right outside Adanaeur Platz U-Bahn, on the blue U7 line. I used to belong there a couple of years ago, and they were happy for me to pay monthly - about 60 euros, if memory serves. Quite close if you are in Charlottenburg. Also worth trying is Maximus, which is opposite Urania, next to the huge Conrad, two mins walk east of Wittenbergplatz - I think the road is called Kleiststrasse. The staff are pretty chilled, and will probably do you a deal...

You might try Gold's Gym on Immanuelkirchstr 3-4 in PB. They let me sign up for a 3-month term with monthly renewals after that, for 69 euro/month. Maybe they'll let you sign up for a single month. I also asked at Holmes Place in Mitte, and they wanted 125 euro per month with no contract. Gold's is decent, while Holmes Place is super deluxe (and with a corresponding cost).

You can cancel a 12 month membership if you are moving away and they cant provide you with the service any longer, you need a bank account though. Mc Fit is the cheapest.

Noticed a street advert for Gold's Gym yesterday, advertising a cheap trial membership for July and August.
