Via BBC News: Berlin offers stalkers a way out.

QUOTE
A walk-in advice centre for stalkers has opened in the German capital Berlin - the first of its kind in the country.

Stalking was made a criminal offence in Germany a year ago.

Free advice will be dispensed to help stalkers kick their habit.

"Stalking is like an addiction - the perpetrators keep increasing the dose," said the psychologist in charge of the centre.

So victims of stalking should simply walk into this place - sorted. The stalker will be a few paces behind and problem will be solved.

Victims??

This clearly says its a self help for Stalkers...

But the stalkers need to be man enough to admit their wrong doing first!

The most shocking thing about this is the use of the verb 'stalken' in German! Is there no native word for it?

I'm torn between laughing at the irony of this being posted here, now, and wondering if they will open one in Munich.

Yes, I was sent this link and had to log in again (yes. despite flounce).

You're assuming that all stalkers are men, which isn't the case.

I thought at first glance that this was to help those suffering from the effects of excessive use of Viagra

Welcome back, DDBug!
DDBug
Thanks, though I'm not really back like I used to be

On topic (I'm not sure this is relevant to just Berlin though)
As with alcoholics, anorexics, tt addicts or any other modern 'social' illness, the first step to finding a cure is admitting you have a problem.

This link might be of interest to some here. Are you a stalker?

that is the problem, stalkers don't think they have a problem. Its those being stalked, in their eyes are the problem. huh.gif

Well the two other words which mean "stalking" are Anschleicher and Pirschjäger. I guess "Bitte stalken sie mich nicht!" sounds better than "Bitte anschleichen Sie mich nicht!" laugh.gif
Anschleichen also means to sneak up (on someone).

Alternatively, there's nachstellen, belästigen, or nötigen.

because stalking is not about SEX! its about control and those that stalk have no control in their lives, but they try to make the lives of those they are stalking miserable by stalking and controling every moment and movement of the stalkee.
All that stalk are mentally unstable and should be locked up, especially when they attempt to spread lies about the people they are stalking and even worse when then they pathetically attempt to tell stories about the friends/aquantances of the stalkee, just to justify their actions and attempt to cover up their own sexual/social inadequentcies.

@carm: you say it.

i know someone who was stalked online by a professor whose wife was the dean of the school. (local area networks, which are used in universities, are easily hackable.) he read her emails and stuff on her hard drive (including personal writings she kept there) and somehow managed to psychologically really mess with her head for a year and a half before she figured it out. she tried to tell the administration but nobody would listen or do anything, and they made her sign something that said if she spoke about it again, she'd be kicked out of the university. four years later, after she had moved to another country, he suddenly showed up and walked past her, five feet away on a train platform. talk about a horrible sinking sick feeling of total insecurity!

stalkers desperately need treatment. i'm glad this resource is available for them.

i mean, this woman was really messed up and afraid of a lot of things. it's just not right. though the whole "catching the stalker" thing seems pretty complicated, what with technology and the lack of knowledge about who knows what and how much which people can find out and the exact boundaries of legality...just like the us recently saw with the fisa bill (which is of course a bit off topic since that's at the governmental level, but)...

is online stalking illegal? and what does stalking consist of exactly?

somehow laws have to be put in place internationally too. though of course that will get complicated and run the risk of putting unfair restrictions on poorer countries and including all sorts of loopholes.

it always seems like the innocent get punished while the perpetrators get off scotch free.
