The weather was great yesterday and we enjoyed biking. We did a bike tour
Holzkirchen - Bad Tölz - Konigsdorf - Wolfrathausen- Holzkirchen. Total distance = 82kms
Average speed 21kms/ hr

Looking forward racer biking around the Starnberger See or Ammer See for the coming weekends. Both are separate tours roughly 70-80kms each.

Weather looks great so does biking biggrin.gif
SarahD
Thanks nataras for starting the new thread...which day do you want to ride this weekend- Saturday or Sunday? Either ride sounds good, as I haven't done either. Do you think one will have more bike traffic than the other?
SarahD
I already have plans to ride down south on 1st May but it seems as though some people also have 2nd May as a vacation day. Is anyone interested in riding on Friday or does Sat/Sun suit better?
Enda Storey
Hi,

I would be interested in taking in a few trips between Thur and Sat. I have done a few 80-90k so far (mainly out to Starnberg around the lake and back) and would be interested in stepping up to maybe 100k. There is a trip described by Bron in a previous thread from Kufstein to Tegernsee which is around 100k, I would be up for that on Saturday, if you are feeling energetic its 150k to Munich. Would mean taking the train on Saturday morning to Kufstein. I will check in again here on Fri to see if there is interest...

We can decide for Saturday or Sunday shortly. Lets wait till Wed to see the response and then decide for the place as well as day!
I am looking for biking for 4-5 weekends around 80-100 kms everytime before the Erding Triathlon. This is for better endurance and constant biking..

You mean the one through Thierseetal and up the Spitzingseestrasse? Yes, that was a good one, would be good to do it again. Could be up for that on Saturday if Mr Bron has his bike sorted out.
Weather permitting, a ride on Thursday would be good too, maybe round one of the lakes?
nataras
I would be interested for a ride on Sunday. The ride `Thierseetal and up the Spitzingseestrasse` sounds interesting. If Bron is coming along then no map is required tongue.gif

I can guide some other week for 'Hozkirchen - Bad Tölz - Konigsdorf - Wolfrathausen- Holzkirchen'. This is a beautiful ride and there is a very nice restaurant in Wolfrathausen which serves great Tomato soup and bread for lunch break:)

So anyone up for this ride! Sarah , Enda Storey and of course Bron.

@Bron: Will your racer bike problem be sorted out on saturday?
@Sarah: The ride across Starnberg or Aamersee can be an option too
Bron
Sunday would suit me best and the ride starting in Kufstein is a nice one. It does have a fair bit of climbing so is a nice test for the legs, but there are various options to make it longer or shorter if people are tired/still too energetic.
Might not be the worst idea to take a map along anyway wink.gif we have the map for the area.

The bike problem is on my husband´s bike and I´m sure he will get it sorted out, or I´ll threaten to leave him at home!
Bron
Well looks like tomorrow will be fine.
Anyone else interested? Kufstein to Klais via Thierseetal and Spitzingsee. Can be shortened if we get tired (e.g. end at Tegernsee).
We will be taking the train at 6:39 from Hauptbahnhof.

Hi nataras, thanks for the suggestion, I would definitely be interested for the coming weekends. Sounds like very nice rides. I'm new in Munich and looking to discover a few bike tours.
I'm not really in a good shape since I've been sick for the past 3 weeks but hopefully I'll be sorted out by next weekend.
I'll check this thread again during the week.

Sounds like a nice century ride. Unfortunately this is too quick and too far for me at the moment...
nataras
It has been a month now with no long bike tour. I would be interested for biking (on sunday 9th of June). Distance around 100kms is ok!

One good option is around the Starnberg See and Aamer See. Another idea is Holzkirchen - Bad Tölz - Konigsdorf - Wolfrathausen- Holzkirchen. This is a very besutiful trail and I did this 1month ago.

New participants and new ideas of nice racer bike trails are welcome:)

@ Sarah/Bron: Would you like to join this weekend? The weather seems to be great
sickboy
Hi Nataras, Sunday is the 8th oder??

I am interested in a mid- long ride.. maybe stear cleer of tegernsee because it is the MTB marathon, so the roads may well be busy around the lake. Apart from that I am open...
sickboy
nataras
@sickboy: Thanks for the info. Would you like to do any of the tours I have suggested or you know something interesting! Lets decide the trail! Any suggestions..
SarahD
hey you two, Ian and I would be interested - either of those rides are fine, but we'd rather do the Holzkirchen one since we've never done it! Of course, Starnberg/Ammersee is always nice and easy smile.gif

we are doing the Bad Endorf sprint triathlon on saturday so we might not want to start too early on sunday...9 or 10am would be fine

@ Sarah/Bron: Would you like to join this weekend? The weather seems to be great

I don't know what plans are for next weekend, but could be interested.
We did the "Durchs Dachauer Land" rtf yesterday. It was the first time I had done one of these events and was rather good fun - the course is marked out and there are feeding stations, but apart from that, you are free to ride at your own pace (it's not a race, but makes a good training run). The route is on the web and is quite a good rolling tour starting at Dachau and heading north.
sickboy
@Nataras,
the lakes tours sound good I have never done them, other options include, Muc - Grunwald - WRhausen - Bad Toelz - Holzkirchen - Muc.. very similar to the one you mentioned

I also do couple of longer ones the same as above, but going further south to sylvensteinsee and back but this probably 160k.

In your post you mentioned trails, you talking about road bikng?
nataras

sickboy
Hi again,
OK, I am going to do an outing on Sunday, and will do the Holzkirchen route, so if anyone would like to join me then post or ping me a mail and we can try and arrange a time to meet.

Cheers
SarahD
@ sickboy...details please. ian and i are interested, just like to know distance, speed and start time!

would be nice to have a group for some good drafting biggrin.gif

-sarah
SarahD
oh, and where would you like to meet? ...guess that is important too ;-)
sickboy
@Sarah,
Sorry was in a rush when I posted earlier. I am thinking about starting in Munich, heading to Holzkirchen - Dietramszell - Bad Toelz - Koenigsdorf - wolfratshausen - Grunwald - Munich.

That would be around 120k, other option is to start in Holzkirchen and head back there from wolfratshausen, via Egling. That would reduce it by about 25k to about 100k.

Speed wise I am happy on the flat at 28 - 30km sometimes faster, also happy to go slower as I am trying to increase my distances. Also I am not so good on hills, so that will certainly slow things down ;-))

I know this area pretty well and there are loads of other options... what do you think? what are you looking for?
SarahD
@ sickboy - we are both better on the flats, since we come from a very flat area -- climbing is not our favorite, but we are working at it!!

ian is a much stronger rider than i am (his quads are twice mine!) but i can draft to keep up with the boys and i can pull for a time as well ;-)

we would rather start in holzkirchen, as we *hate* riding our nice bikes around town on the cobblestones, through construction, etc...they just get beat up

80-100k sounds fine to me (we will have done a volks-distance triathlon on saturday)...if you want to add the 20k on, we can just meet you in holzkirchen. we will drive there with our bikes on the rack. maybe you know a parking area along the route?
sickboy
Sounds cool, I have to shut down now, lets finalise the arrangements later in the week and maybe others want to join...
see you soon
nataras
So finally I am riding on Sunday SarahD + 1 would be coming
@ Sickboy: Would you like to come along. As suggested it would nice to do the trail
Holzkirchen - Dietramszell - Bad Toelz - Koenigsdorf - wolfratshausen - Grunwald - Munich

I know the way upto Wolfratshausen but to get to Grundwald from there and back to munich I dont know. If you know that and come along we can do that. Let us know latest by Saturday evening.
sickboy
Hi guys,
Nataras, just PM'd you. Where shall we meet, SarahD mentioned Holzkirchen, I can do that but will probably cycle from Munich anyway? If not Holzk where do we want to meet, if people want to meet out of town, but not as far south as Holzk to make the ride a bit longer, we could try Taufkirchen, at the S bahn station , it is on the S5, just far enough out of town to make it not so frustrating to cycle through.

I am flexible, although maybe not too early! Let me know
Cheers

SarahD
Hi there, is anyone else concerned about the rain? (I know nataras is not!! haha)

We spoke to 2 others from the MRRC who would like to join the ride, weather permitting. Hubby and I would be driving to the closest car park to start our ride...this can be Holz or somewhere closer to Munich.

@ sickboy -- Thalkirchen sounds good too. Could you post or PM a specific place there? I know the general area but we haven't ridden much here, so I can't suggest anything...also, will you be riding rain or shine?

Sarah
SarahD
@sickboy

sorry, just reread your post -- Taufkirchen S bahn: i assume there is a car park there...shall we settle on that??
Bron
Hello, we would also be interested. Bron +1.
Is there a meeting time at Taufkirchen? We would get the S-bahn there or cycle out.
SarahD
OK I'm posting this, but if it's raining you won't see me or the hubby there!

Sunday 10:30am Taufkirchen S bahn

Let's meet in the car park area (sickboy says there is one...) because we will be coming by car, and there are some who will be biking there with others riding the S bahn...seems like the best place to congregate with bikes in tow!

The plan is to start out slow, possibly work our way up to some drafting and overall have fun! (right? haha)

Hope to see you all there

-sarah
SarahD
maybe i should do this:

SarahD +3
nataras
Bron +1
sickboy

oh, and i have everyone's cell numbers (and i think everyone has mine!)
nataras
@Sarah: Anyone has Directions from Taufkirchen? If yes, no problem.
I know the directions from Holzkirchen!
If its going to rain, I won't ride.
sickboy
Hi All,
Just to confirm, there is a car park and easy street parking. It is easiest to get to if you approach Taufkirchen S Bahn from the Eschenstrasse side, it is in Google maps. From there I know the route and also have a map.
I will probably turn up irrespective of the weather to see how it looks, but probably wont ride if it is lashing down

see you tomorrow
SarahD
Hello there, we (me, hubby and nataras) have just returned from the Bad Endorfer triathlon...nataras had a look at the weather and said it is calling for rain all day tomorrow. So, he suggested that we cancel...I see that sickboy is going either way so I am just posting to say that SarahD +3 and nataras will not be riding tomorrow! We are absolutely planning to do it next weekend, so we can start discussing it again on Monday...

Have a nice ride, all you brave folk unsure.gif

Bron
Hmm, just seen the weather forecast. It´s been the same all week though and some days it has rained and others not.

I´m still quite keen on riding and so is my other (fast) half.

@Sickboy, I´ve sent you a PM.
Bron
There´s no rain on the radar pictures. We (Bron +1) are definitely riding. Anyone else want to change ther minds and come along?
sickboy
I'm also up for it. See you at 1030
TroyMcClure
I really hesitated this morning, I wanted to join you guys, but I had an apartment to clean and the weather wasn't really inviting.
By 1 pm I was done, and there was a bright sunshine outside so I hopped on the bike.
I went round Starnberger See, 90 km @ 25 average. It was really nice out there.
Did you have a nice ride?
sickboy
Hi,
So, we did it, Bron, Hubby and myself, we braved the conditions!!!... which based upon the ominous weather forcasts were a bit of a letdown. It started a bit damp, no rain, just a bit moist on the road, then after an hour or so, basically on the approach to Bad Toelz, we had a shower for about 10 minutes and then the sun came out, ended up neing a really nice ride. Looks like you guys missed a good one. Believe it or not I actually got some colour on my arms and legs... cool, makes a change for me!

I think according to Brons plus 1 we did a 25kmh ave also over 90(ish)km.

I am not around next weekend, but after that I will be up for some more rides, if anyone else is interested?

cheers
S
SarahD
@Troy

wish you'd have posted because you're right the weather was awesome at 1pm!

@sickboy

we were laughing all day about the LACK of rain! glad you all went ahead out for the ride...unfortunately i've injured my foot so it's just as well that i stayed off of it yesterday because today it is feeling loads better.

we're around this coming weekend and will definitely go for a long ride on Sat or Sun.

after this weekend, we can't do the following 2 weekends, but what about an afternoon ride during the week? we could easily do the starnberg ride (~90km) in under 4 hours, say from 4-8pm? or you all might have better routes...

let me know if there's any interest for a week-day afternoon/evening ride...
markus
One thing you learn very quickly living close to (or almost in) the mountains is never to trust the weather report. We were lucky yesterday, but if the weather would have turned, we could have got on a train within very short distance at most places.

Anyway -- about 92 km with 770 m total climb, worst climb (only a very short bit) 13-14%, quite a few stretches with around 7% - beautiful countryside down there. Thanks, sickboy for the suggested ride.

Next weekend -- provided the weather will co-operate (which is not at all certain) -- Bron and I are up for ride, similar length or possibly longer - will put my thinking cap on and make suggestions later during the week.

After work rides -- possibly (again, co-operation of the weather provided) later in the week (not Friday, though), but I think it very unlikely being able to leave from Schwabing before 6pm - so that would (at least for Bron and me) mean cycling out to the north (which is OK - only the bit out to Feldmoching can be a bit annoying).

Markus
SarahD
yes, we know all about the frequent weather changes and the untrustworthy weather reports! it is the same in many places all over the world...

we (group of 5 so far) are planning a ride for friday afternoon, so anyone interested PM me.

-sarah
TroyMcClure
I'm not around this weekend so no riding for me.
After work rides will be difficult at present, I'm starting a new job next Monday and I guess I won't be able to leave early in the evenings. I like the idea a lot but I'm not sure I'll be able to wriggle out of work easily.
Enda Storey
@Marcus

If you're putting together a trip for the weekend...can you figure out a way to include the Grossglockener? I know there was a competition on there last week but would you guys be interested in taking it on as part of a tour?

rgs
Bron
We´re probably going to head north tomorrow. Start from Schwabing at 9ish, ride time approx 3 hours. PM me if you want to come.

Großglockner looks great. I think Markus is quite keen too, but we won´t manage it tomorrow.
sickboy
Hi Guys,
weather should be getting better towards the end of the week, so I will be planning to do a long ride this weekend, probably on Sunday, am thinking about a route along these lines, but if anyone wants to join I am open for suggestions:

Start Taufkirchen S Bahn - Dietramszell - Bad Toelz - Lenggries - Sylvensteinsee - Kreuth - Rottach Eggern - Holzkirchen - Taufkirchen.

I think this is likely to be around 150km. Anyone else interested?
S
sickboy
Attention road bikers!,

Hows things?, Just a quick bump for this thread. I want to go for a ride on Sunday this week. weather is looking good, so will be aiming to leave Taufkirchen, near the S Bahn, at around 10am and head down toward Sylvensteinsee.

If anyone else is interested in joining in just respond or drop me a mail...
cheers

Ian

Today is my last day for training. I would be riding across the Isar till Grunwand till Wolfrathausen if possible and back. Planning to start at 6 and end by 8. Would like to be home before the football match ohmy.gif

Saturday is Schliersee and Sunday is Erding Trithalon . Many participate in either of the two:) I am in Erding.

Have a nice ride for Sunday. Let me know if you are interested for today
DickyD
if anyone has time next week (WW26) I'm planning a 600km week (5 days 23rd to 27th inclusive ... ) I'll be ridding mainly mornings through to lunch time or can rearrange to afternoon if it suits ... I luckly have some time between two jobs so if anyone is up for any 100km rides let me know .. they won't be fast just steady ... either east or south of Munich.
