Places good for inline skating

I am interested in in line skating. Where is a good place to skate (apart from the Konigsweg in Grunewald)?
Also, as I have never skated before, is it essential to get lessons, or can you teach yourself?

We've been skating at the Volkspark in Friedrichshain - lots of people do it there as well as running. There's a track that goes round in a circle. Its a good place to start but reckon it would get a bit boring after a while. Its definitely worth checking out - there are some excellent skaters, perhaps you could ask them if they know where you could get lessons.
