My boyfriend wants us to go to the spa in Baden Baden. Ive looked it up online and its looks very nice... BUT ... im not sure if im comfortable taking my clothes off infront of strangers. Nor am i sure i want to see other people naked. The Boyfriend says its completely normal, everyone does it, no one cares, its just the Irish coming out in me...etc,etc
Am i weird or is this a normal reaction for a non-German?

Don't worry i've been to Caracalla in Baden Baden
Caracalla thermal bad. i'm also them same in that i would not want to bath naked or see lots of naked old people.
At Caracalla they have two sections one for normal bathers and one for naked, they are completely separate from each other. I would definatly recommend this place.

I would say neither! I don't think it is weird but I wouldn't exactly like to call it the "normal" non-German reaction. I would expect that it is an individual reaction that is influenced by a range of different things.
I'm a Brit and I don't mind being naked or seeing other naked people - as long as everyone is comfortable. I did not know what my comfort level was until I had a few sauna experiences. I have more problem with not taking my swimming costume off to shower in UK pools (showers being communal and changing space in cubicles often) or wearing things in the sauna, both of which I find quite unpleasant.
Basically find a place where you are able to do what you are happy doing... whether that be clothed, naked with others of the same sex or whatever!

Being naked in a sauna/spa is normal. Nobody stares, don't worry about it

People look, but they don't stare. Usually. Though I confess I love looking at all the penises. So many shapes!

I'm not a German so I guess I'm best suited to deal with the question here. Firstly, we need to see a picture of you - preferably naked. Only then can I answer with any degree of confidence your question.

I am German but prefer the more 'dressed look' and would NEVER go to FKK or whatever, although I don't think I'm prudish. But then I believe most people just look better with a some clothes on.

I haven't done any of the "big spas" in Germany yet but I went into a spa at a gym where the culture is pretty much the same. As an american it is a bit weird at first but as long as you have an open mind I really don't think its that big of a deal. I think that maybe Americans think someone well get all "bug-eyed" and stare but this never happens. I actually saw another guy "rubbing" himself (not in a sexual way but rather cleaning himself) and I wasn't really disturbed as I thought I would be.

My first German "spa" experience was rather strange. I thought no one here knows me and no one here will be American. One naked one legged American guy 15 minutes later and my illusion was busted! This was only to be outdone by an old naked German granny telling me to get naked before weighing myself at the same "spa" a few months later. I have been told off by grannies before, but never a naked one.
A year later I got my revenge. Twas naked and hanging out at Feldmochinger See when a lovely young American girl lay her naked ass self down a few feet from me. The look on her face when I spoke English to her was precious. You could tell she had thought she was sneaking off to be naked amongst the locals and wasn't expecting a fellow naked American to be within arms reach.
Once you get used to it, you will never go back. Wet clingy clothes is just so not natural and totally uncomfortable. For girls it is easy, but for guys it can be hard sometimes.

I'm completely against this whole public nakedness thing. I don't want to see other peoples gristly and dangly bits...at all, ever.

If you are into
Badekultur, I can toatally recommend the baths in Bad Wildbad.
http://www.palais-thermal.de/This opulent bath is truly a work of art and simply has to be seen to be believed!!!
And IMHO it is much nicer and considerably cheaper tahn anything Baden Baden has to offer.

Ha ha...had to laugh at this as this happened to me once at my gym in Munich but with an English woman. Not really the done thing back in Britannia but it seems most Brits don't really care when they get to Germany.

Nakedness is the most natural thing sin the world - it´s just sad that some people wear it better than others!
I used to worry about being seen naked too, but now I realise that there is always going to be somebody who is fatter, wobblier, or simply just uglier than I am, so I just get on in there!

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Myself? I'd be fine with it but would stay far away from any cold water pools. Damn this asian blood of mine!

I was planning on going swimming at the Schwansee today, but first I need to stop and pick up my bike from the bar. I was considering asking the barkeep to join me because being from the city, I'm a little bit worried that I'll chicken out when I get there, it being an alpine lake and all. The only thing that's holding me back is the fact that I know he swims nude.
I'm fully aware of the fact that it's silly of me, but I just cannot imagine going swimming with a male friend while he's naked! I just can't! And I dread the day when I run into someone I know from town while they're nude. Hopefully I'll get over the nudity thing before that happens.
It's refreshing to hear everyone else's stories. Glad to know I'm not the only one who feels strange about it.

You will not get over it until that happens! Once, maybe twice even.

hahaha, been grinning away at the responses to the question.
In particular I liked the:"Though I confess I love looking at all the penises. So many shapes!" - still laughing
As I am Irish and get sunburned by just looking at holiday brochures, I avoid open air nudity for obvious reasons, so have never had a line up to compare
