Forum username changes can not be made by a forum member themselves. Members may, however, request a username change from the site adminstration.

  • New members may request a name change for free
  • Longer-term members must pay €20

The definition of "new forum member" is one who joined less than three calendar months ago and who has fewer than 30 posts to their credit.

Reason for the charge

The rationale behind the €20 charge is to discourage name changes yet to still make it possible for those who really want it. Name changes are discouraged because they disrupt the community and confuse other members who only know a particular member via their established username. By changing your name nobody will know who you are anymore. Maybe this is the point, maybe you want to be anonymous? In that case it's best to open a new account instead. But remember, members are only allowed operation of one account. Your old account will be closed.

What updates are made

During a username change all previous posts and personal messages are updated with the new name. The author names in quoted posts, however, are not updated.

How to go ahead and change

To go ahead with a name change, first make the €20 payment via the TT payments page, then send a PM requesting the new name. The name will be updated within a day or two.

Requests for vulgar or unpronouncable usernames will be denied.

Minor name changes are free

If you wish to change only one or two letters in your username, this can also be done for free. Perhaps you wish to correct the spelling, or change the format or the capitalisation. This is free of charge and can be done any time. Of course multiple minor changes which accumulate into one big change are not permitted.

Alternative name change options

Alternatively, a member may of course open a new account for free. However the post history and PM archive will not be transferred. The old name will not be deleted but it will probably be closed. The operation of more than one forum account is strongly discouraged and only allowed if there is a very good reason for doing so - like the need to ask personal medical questions, for example.
